Training Camp Notes: Aug. 7

This article is part of our Training Camp Notes series.

It's a relatively slow news day, but some big names received good news between Friday and Saturday. That's where we'll kick off this edition of Training Camp Notes.

  • More information continues to emerge regarding Justin Jefferson, who remains the center of attention in the fantasy world. He's officially considered day-to-day after an MRI showed no additional damage beyond an AC joint sprain. As Jim Coventry noted in this column Friday, there's still risk involved so it's understandable to shift similar players in his tier at the position above him. Conversely, if Jefferson falls too far in drafts, he could worth the risk now that we know he isn't likely to miss significant time.
  • In more positive news, Lamar Jackson returned to practice after being activated from the reserve/COVID list Friday. There shouldn't be any change to his status caused by this absence. He's currently QB4 off the board on NFFC, and if there was ever a discount on his draft price, it's certainly gone now.
  • The Lions receiver corps is currently beat up, as Quintez Cephus (head), Tyrell Williams (groin) and Breshad Perriman (hip) missed practice. Williams and Perriman are the most concerning given their past injury history. In addition, Williams was already playing through a dislocated finger.  Depending on the length of their absences, Amon-Ra St. Brown could see extra reps with the first team and if Cephus can return quickly, the team could have a very young receiving corps to begin the season.
  • Jalen Reagor has had the chance to work as the Eagles' top receiver in camp in the absence of DeVonta Smith (hamstring). However, reports suggest that Reagor has had swings in the quality of his play, making athletic leaping grabs while also dealing with drops and other miscues. Surely the team wants Reagor to beat out the likes of Greg Ward, Travis Fulgham and Quez Watkins for a role, but it seems as if Reagor has yet to take full advantage of that opportunity. That said, preseason games should give us a better indication of how much progress he's made, so don't dismiss Reagor yet.
  • Will Fuller remains sidelined with a foot injury and is now approaching a two-week absence. The team continues to downplay the knock, but his mounting absences are beginning to suggest it's at least somewhat serious. If it's possible to spin this in a more positive light, Fuller will be forced into a Week 1 absence by a suspension dating to last season, so he has more time to get healthy.
  • Odell Beckham has yet to return to full practice, but continues to get work individually. On Saturday, he participated in a one-on-one session with Baker Mayfield. He continues to ramp up toward full clearance and the fact that he's getting work in with Mayfield is a clear positive.
  • Shield your eyes, Aaron Rodgers. Jake Kumerow is drawing praise early on in Bills camp, as he's showcased his athleticism while working against standout corner Tre'Davious White. This isn't big news on the checklist for draft prep, but is worth noting because the Bills are one of the team's with the highest rate four-receiver sets.
  • In similar news, Alex Erickson is reportedly getting work in the slot while competing for a role with the Texans. He's not even close to draft consideration in typical leagues, but the Texans depth chart is enough of a mess that his name is at least worth storing in the back of your mind.
