2026 Fantasy Outlook
Baldwin drew high praise from Chris Sale and other veteran members of the Atlanta pitching staff early on in spring training, and an injury to Sean Murphy cemented Baldwin's status as the team's primary catcher to begin 2025. The Madison, Wis. native would go on to slash .274/.341/.469 with 19 homers and 80 RBI across 446 plate appearances, winning NL Rookie of the Year. While his pop times and framing metrics left a bit to be desired, Baldwin graded well in terms of blocking behind the plate. Statcast suggests Baldwin actually underperformed by BA and SLG as a rookie, as his low strikeout rate (15.2%) and quality batted-ball numbers portended slightly better. Assuming Murphy is healthy to begin 2026, the two players will likely split catching and DH duties, with Baldwin having the leg up for playing time as the No. 1 catcher on the depth chart. Entering his age-25 season, Baldwin has shown enough of a skills baseline to be worthy of top-10 consideration at the position. Read Past Outlooks
Draws start at DH versus lefty
Baldwin will start at designated hitter and bat second in Friday's opener versus the Royals.
Analysis
Per Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Atlanta manager Walt Weiss noted Thursday that he planned to use Baldwin at DH and Jonah Heim at catcher against left-handed pitching, and that's how things are set up Friday against Royals southpaw Cole Ragans. The left-handed-swinging Baldwin had virtually even splits in his rookie season, slashing .299/.358/.460 against lefties and .267/.336/.472 versus righties. Being used in the DH slot on days he doesn't catch is a big boost to Baldwin's counting status outlook.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Once Baldwin got out of Mississippi (the worst Double-A park to hit in), his season took off. He slashed .298/.407/.484 with 12 homers and almost as many walks (52) as strikeouts (54) in 72 games at Triple-A. Baldwin followed that up with a .377/.452/.491 triple-slash and a 9:8 K:BB in 13 Arizona Fall League games. Baldwin showed last year that his command of the zone and bat-to-ball ability (79.7 Contact%) are pretty elite relative to most upper-level catchers. This helped lead to a 32.6 percent hard-hit rate and a 16.3 percent soft-hit rate, which are excellent marks for any minor-league hitter. With Travis d'Arnaud moving on, Baldwin is a clear top-two catcher on Atlanta's organizational depth chart from a talent standpoint, as of late November. Chadwick Tromp is still on the 40-man roster and is out of options, but Baldwin is a better overall player and should spend most or all of 2025 in the big leagues. Sean Murphy is coming off his worst full big-league season, and whether he can bounce back and handle 100-plus games will greatly impact Baldwin's output.
