2026 Fantasy Outlook
Fragility has been the one thing we've been able to count on from DeLauter, who became the first player since 2020 to make his big-league debut during the postseason. Since getting drafted in the first round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, DeLauter has played 138 games total in the minors, including rehab assignments, due to a litany of injuries, primarily to his lower body. He has also played 35 games in the Arizona Fall League across two seasons, and while trips to the injured list have been frequent, DeLauter has been a consistent performer at the dish (131 wRC+, 15.4 K% last year at Triple-A). His massive size (listed at 6-foot-3, 235 pounds) contributes to his inability to stay healthy while patrolling the outfield. If one were looking for a silver lining, DeLauter's injuries in 2025 (sports hernia, hamate fracture) were not to his lower body, and he technically finished the year healthy, logging seven plate appearances in the postseason after not playing at Triple-A since July 11. DeLauter is entering his age-24 season and will head to spring training penciled into a starting spot, given the Guardians' lack of established options other than Steven Kwan. The lefty hitter may sit against southpaws early in his career, but he has the talent to be an everyday player. Just keep in mind he has never played more than 57 games in a regular season. DeLauter went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in a 6-5 extra-inning win over the Mariners on Saturday.
Analysis
DeLauter looked like he could be stymied for the first time this season when he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts over his first four plate appearances. However, the rookie saved his best for last, belting a two-run homer off All-Star reliever Andres Munoz in the 10th inning for what ended up being the decisive hit. DeLauter has now homered in the first three regular-season games of his career, and he's the early league leader with four home runs to go along with a gaudy .357/.357/1.214 slash line.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
DeLauter played zero games in 2022 (his draft year) due to a broken foot. In 2023, he played 57 regular-season games and 23 games in the Arizona Fall League. He played 39 games in 2024 and another 11 in the AFL. Excluding the AFL but including rehab assignments, he has only played 96 games since getting selected in the middle of the first round in 2022. He is a career .317/.387/.517 hitter with 13 home runs, seven steals and a 12.8 percent strikeout rate in those 96 games, and he's essentially mastered the minor leagues in that limited sample, so he could still be a big part of Cleveland's future. However, at 6-foot-3, 235 pounds and with a lengthy track record of lower-body injuries, the durability risk is off the charts and there's a chance he stops running and slides to first base or designated hitter in an effort to keep his bat in the lineup.
The Guardians' big-league outfield is light on offensive impact potential, but that will change when DeLauter gets the call. The No. 16 overall pick in 2022, DeLauter broke his left foot midway through his junior year with James Madison and then broke a toe on that same foot during his rehab, so he didn't make his pro debut until June of 2023. He quickly made up for lost time, slashing .355/.417/.528 with five home runs, 22 doubles and six steals in 57 games across rookie ball, High-A and Double-A, with the bulk of those at-bats coming at High-A. A hulking 6-foot-4, 235-pound outfielder who can currently handle all three spots, DeLauter added to his 2023 ledger with a .299/.385/.529 line, five home runs and more walks than strikeouts in 23 Arizona Fall League games. Given his size and the physical nature of his game, it's a bit concerning that he has suffered multiple fractures on the same foot at this stage of his career, but DeLauter has looked like the best player on the field in most of the games he's played in over the past few years. He had 11 steals on 15 attempts in his 80 games last year, so while his speed should trend down in the coming years, DeLauter could be a five-category contributor in his early-20s. Despite the fact he only played six games at Double-A, DeLauter will likely look big-league ready early in 2024, so he's a viable high-upside flyer in draft-and-hold leagues.
DeLauter has been a well-known prospect in the 2022 draft class dating back to his exploits in the 2021 Cape Cod League, where he had a .986 OPS, nine home runs and more walks (21) than strikeouts (18) in 34 games. That data point is noteworthy not only because it was with a wood bat, but because he didn't face great competition in three years in the Colonial Athletic Association with James Madison. Cleveland can afford to be patient with DeLauter, whom they selected with the 16th overall pick. At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, he's already got an XXL frame, and his left-handed swing can get long, so the main concern is how he will handle the type of velocity he will be seeing regularly for the first time in pro ball. There is a chance he ends up as a strong-side platoon bat. DeLauter runs well for his size, but could move from center field to right field. It's tough to predict how his above-average speed will age, as he already looks too big to move as well as he does, yet he shouldn't add much weight going forward. He broke his left foot midway through his junior season and won't make his pro debut until 2023.
