2026 Fantasy Outlook
Given the lack of position player talent on the Royals roster, Jensen and Salvador Perez could each play nearly every day in 2026 while splitting starts at catcher and designated hitter. Jensen, a 22-year-old lefty hitter, put up eye-popping power metrics at Triple-A and the big leagues after getting off to a slower start at Double-A. The highlight of his season was hammering a 482-foot homer -- the fourth-longest homer hit in the majors in 2025, behind a pair of Mike Trout homers and a Nick Kurtz moonshot. He slashed .288/.404/.647 with 14 home runs, a 16.3 BB%, 28.3 K% and .359 ISO in 43 games at Triple-A before getting a September call-up. In the majors, Jensen slashed .300/.391/.550 with three home runs, a 13 percent walk rate and a 17.4 percent strikeout rate in 69 plate appearances. His contact and swinging-strike rates were better in the majors than at Triple-A, as Jensen seemingly got better as the season went along while earning multiple promotions. He has stolen between 10 and 17 bases in the minors the last three years, but he only attempted three steals at Triple-A and attempted zero steals in the majors, so he may only attempt a handful of steals in 2026. Jensen's talent and upside may be greater than his name value, although he won't be undervalued by anyone who puts a lot of stock in red Statcast bars. Read Past Outlooks

Jensen went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Nationals.

It was the first four-hit performance of Jensen's career, and it extended his current hit streak to nine games, during which he's batting .361 (13-for-36) with five doubles, two homers, seven runs and nine RBI. Wednesday's steal was also his first in the majors in his 88th game, but Jensen flashed some base-stealing acumen in the minors, going 10-for-11 on steal attempts over 103 games last season and 17-for-20 over 124 games in 2024.

Jensen flirted with a 20-20 season while splitting 2024 between High-A and Double-A, and he also impressed in a 12-game run in the Arizona Fall League. A lefty-hitting catcher who turned 21 in July -- two weeks before his promotion to Double-A -- Jensen slashed .259/.359/.450 with 18 home runs, 17 steals on 20 attempts, a 13.2 percent walk rate and a 23.4 percent strikeout rate in 125 games. He then hit .425 with a .582 OBP and four home runs and one steal in 55 AFL plate appearances. Jensen's 31.8 percent hard-hit rate was a very strong mark for a catcher his age, especially one who also commands the strike zone as well as he does. Jensen doesn't grade out as even an average runner, but he's proven to be a savvy base stealer, at least against minor-league batteries. Jensen is a better prospect in OBP leagues than batting average leagues, but he has a pretty high ceiling in both formats due to his ability to hit for power and steal bases at the catcher position. His catcher defense still needs improvement, and it's possible he'll end up seeing time in left field in the coming years.
