NFL Divisional Round Weekend Line Movement

A quarterback is the only position that can significantly move an NFL point spread, and a top-tier QB can be worth up to seven or more points. For all other positions, the impact is minimal and usually less than a single point, unless multiple players on the same unit are injured. When a unit has multiple starters out, it is often overlooked in the handicapping world. OL, DL, secondary, and WR are the units that are impacted the most.

You will not see very much line movement in the playoffs as these lines are only going to have a total of 6-7 days of shelf life. But each line move you see this week just means that much more so do not take a 0.5 or 1.0 line move lightly.

Houston Texans at New England Patriots

The two-seed Patriots opened as 3.0 point home favorites and the number immediately dropped to 2.5, but it went back up to 3.0 and then to 3.5. 3 is a key number in football so this shows that there was heavy activity when the number moved.

The total opened 41.5 and dropped to 41.0 and now sits at 40.5. I can see this total dropping even lower by kickoff as both defenses are playing great football.

The weather forecast is 32 degrees, 25 percent chance of snow, 7 mph winds

Los Angeles Rams at Chicago Bears

The 6 seed road team Rams opened as 4.5 point road favorites against the 2 seed home team Bears, but money immediately came in on Chicago, which moved the line a full point to 3.5.

The total is where the line movement has been coming from, as the weather at gametime looks to be awful. This opened at 51.5 and immediately went to 51.0.  As word about the game forecast started to circulate the total dropped to 50.5 and then another full point to 49.5. It has since dropped to 49.5 and now sits at 48.5. This number could continue to fall even further (read below).

The upcoming Rams at Bears Divisional Round playoff game (Jan 18, 2026) in Chicago is expected to have frigid, wintry conditions, with temperatures around 10-16°F, wind chills potentially dropping to -6°F to -8°F, and a chance of snow, making it one of the coldest games at Soldier Field and a significant challenge for the warm-weather Rams.

Buffalo Bills at Denver Broncos

The Bills opened as 1.5-point road favorites as the 7 seed against the home number one seeded Denver Broncos. Injury news started to come out about the Bills, mainly Josh Allen, Gabe Davis, and Dalton Kincaid, and Matt Prater, which moved the line to Broncos as now 1.5 home favorites. This is one of the lowest lines for a number one seed in the divisional round.

The total opened at 46.5 and immediately went to 47.0, but then dipped to 46.5, and now sits at 46.0. The cluster injuries on the Bills side can be pointed at as the reason for the line drop.

The last time these two teams met was in the 2025 playoffs with the Bills winning 31-7.

The weather forecast is 40 degrees, clear, 4 mph winds

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks

The top-seeded Seahawks opened as 7.0 home favorites, and the line actually dropped to 6.5 before going back up to 7.0, and now sits at 7.5. The 49ers' injury concerns are the reason for the line move in favor of Seattle. (Trent Williams, Fred Warner, Ricky Pearsall, and George Kittle).

The total opened 46.5 and immediately dropped to 45.5, and now sits at 45.0.

The two teams split their regular-season series, with the road team winning each matchup.

The weather forecast is 43 degrees, clear, 2 mph winds
