FanDuel Fantasy Football: Week 12 Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel Fantasy Football series.

QUARTERBACK

Carson Wentz, PHI vs. NYG ($7,700): It's probably a good idea to go to Andrew Luck ($8,400) in cash this week, with him scoring at least 22 fantasy points in seven straight games. However, Wentz is probably a better pick for GPPs given his horrible performance last week that should keep his ownership percentage suppressed. Wentz scored a whopping 3.8 fantasy points last week in New Orleans but gets a good matchup this week at home against the Giants. It's a great bounce-back spot for him, and he had 20 or more fantasy points in five of his previous six games before the anomaly in New Orleans.

RUNNING BACK

Nick Chubb, CLE at CIN ($7,500): Chubb's price has steadily risen since the trade of Carlos Hyde and coming off a 34.4 fantasy point performance against Falcons. Chubb gets another elite matchup this week going against the Bengals who have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs of any team playing the main slate Sunday. The Ravens just scorched the Bengals for 267 yards on the gound (five yards per carry), and a sneaky stack of Chubb, Baker Mayfield and Jarvis Landry might be work out to be a winner.

Gus Edwards, BAL vs. OAK ($5,300): Little has been said as to who will get the lion's share of carries in the Baltimore backfield this week. It seems that if Lamar Jackson gets another start, Edwards should be in line for a similar workload as last week (17 carries). There's a theory that Jackson feels more comfortable working with Edwards with both players being backups, and therefore likely practicing more together than Jackson and Alex Collins. The Raiders are a good matchup for Edwards to have as they have surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing running backs of teams playing the main slate and having to travel across the country to play in this game.

WIDE RECEIVER

Josh Gordon, NE at NYJ ($6,800): This could be the last time to get Gordon at a price less than $7,000 given he's got a good matchup and should be rested with the Patriots coming off the bye. He has double-digit fantasy points in four of his last six games, and his 22 targets over his last two games show how much the Patriots are trying to get him involved. On the main slate this week, the Jets are giving up the third most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

Sterling Shepard, NYG at PHI ($6,000): Shepard is best used for GPPs on a weekly basis considering the low floor (3.2 fantasy points last week) but a high ceiling (17, 19.2 and 20.7 fantasy points in games this season). The Eagles are giving up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers of any team playing Sunday, so that Odell Beckham guy ($8,500) is in play as well.

TIGHT END

Cameron Brate, TB vs. SF ($4,400): This price is extremely cheap considering teammate O.J. Howard is done for the season, which puts Brate in line to play a bigger role in the passing attack. Whether it's been Jameis Winston or Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, they've been big fantasy producers, so even if Jameis gets off to a bad start and gets yanked, there's not really a downgrade going to Fitzpatrick. Combined, Brate and Howard have eight touchdowns this season with Brate scoring one in three consecutive games earlier this season.

FLEX

Joe Mixon, CIN vs. CLE ($7,300): Mixon is coming off two brutal matchups (at BAL, vs. NO) yet was still able to manage 22.2 fantasy points combined in those games. The matchup for Cleveland is much more fantasy-friendly with the Browns giving up the fifth-most fantasy points to running backs of the main slate teams. Mixon has double-digit carries in every game this season, and the return of Giovanni Bernard hasn't affected Mixon's workload. Games of 16.4, 19, 23.4 and 27.3 fantasy points show the amount of upside Mixon has.

DEFENSE

Jacksonville D/ST at BUF ($4,800): This seems like a good week to spend up on defense given the matchups and recent play of the teams. Last week, Jacksonville looked like the defense most thought they've been during the preseason, scoring nine fantasy points against a tough Steelers offense. This week, it'll be a much easier matchup against the Bills who have given up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses/special teams. Paying up for the Ravens ($5,000) at home against Oakland makes sense as well.
