FanDuel College Football: Saturday Bowl Game Picks

CASH GAME TARGETS

QUARTERBACK

Anu Solomon, Arizona vs. New Mexico ($7,200)

Solomon might not be considered a flashy option at this point due to regular season injuries and the general disappointment of the Arizona offense, but he safely strikes me as the top value at quarterback on this slate. He's the seventh-most expensive quarterback but shouldn't rank lower than third on the slate, and he's playing against a New Mexico team that lost 34-10 to Arizona State earlier this year, allowing 317 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Honorable mention: Jeff Driskel, Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($7,900)

RUNNING BACK

Jared Baker, Arizona vs. New Mexico ($5,100)

Nick Wilson is out for the bowl game, leaving Arizona without its star running back and best player. Baker has been the clear backup to Wilson all year long – he was even listed as a co-starter in Week 1 – therefore it would seem Baker is a strong bet to serve as the lead back against New Mexico. He ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries against Colorado earlier this year, so it's hard to see why New Mexico should be able to stop him.

Honorable mention: Kenneth Dixon, Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($8,500); Marcus Cox, Appalachian State vs. Ohio ($8,000); Joseph Williams, Utah vs. BYU ($6,000)

WIDE RECEIVERS

Penny Hart, Georgia State vs. San Jose State ($6,800)

Hart has been incredible as a true freshman this year, establishing himself as Georgia State's top pass catcher even with the standout veterans Robert Davis, Donovan Harden and Keith Rucker already on the team. With 70 catches for 1,085 yards and eight touchdowns in his first 12 games, Hart is arguably the top receiver on the slate.

Trent Taylor, Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($6,500)

Although Hart is arguably the top wideout on the slate, I'd give the title to Taylor. The game between Louisiana Tech and Arkansas State should have better tempo than the San Jose State vs. Georgia State game, and Taylor has fewer receivers competing for targets.

Honorable mention: Cayleb Jones, Arizona vs. New Mexico ($5,200); Robert Davis, Georgia State vs. San Jose State ($5,000); Donovan Harden, Georgia State vs. San Jose State ($4,500)

TIGHT END

Billy Freeman, San Jose State vs. Georgia State ($4,400)

Freeman caught 47 passes for 581 yards and six touchdowns this year for San Jose State, making him the leading producer in all receiving categories. The other tight end in this game, Georgia State's Keith Rucker, is also a top option, though $1,000 more expensive.

Honorable mention: Keith Rucker, Georgia State vs. San Jose State ($5,400); Terenn Houk, BYU vs. Utah ($2,900); Harrison Handley, Utah vs. BYU ($2,700)

TOURNAMENT TARGETS

QUARTERBACK

Kenny Potter, San Jose State vs. Georgia State ($8,800)

I don't list Potter here enthusiastically – I generally don't see a need to pick anyone aside from Solomon and Driskel – but Potter would probably be my third choice at the position, and at this price he almost certainly won't be highly owned. Still, Potter is a dual-threat quarterback who had the San Jose State offense humming to end the year, posting FanDuel point totals of 31.04, 41.88 and 28.04 in his final three games, respectively.

Honorable mention: Previously mentioned cash game targets

RUNNING BACK

A.J. Ouellette, Ohio vs. Appalachian State ($5,800)

It's a bad matchup for Ouellette, both in terms of the defense as well as the game tempo. Appalachian State is likely to run successfully and control the clock, leaving Ohio with limited possessions against a defense allowing under 3.5 YPC this season. Those probabilities will ensure low ownership on Ouellette, but Ohio is always well-prepared for bowl games, and as Ohio's workhorse runner, Ouellette is the top bet to produce if Ohio should prove more competitive than expected.

Honorable mention: Previously mentioned cash game targets; Michael Gordon, Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech ($7,000); Jhurell Pressley, New Mexico vs. Arizona ($6,500)

WIDE RECEIVER

Johnny Jackson, Arizona vs. New Mexico ($4,500)

After Cayleb Jones, Jackson is probably the Arizona receiver most likely to have a big game. His 50 receptions for 612 yards rank second on the team, and his five touchdowns ties him with David Richards for the team lead. Of course, he can be very hit-or-miss, likely limiting him to GPPs for the most part.

Honorable mention: Previously mentioned cash game targets; Carlos Henderson, Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($6,700); Mitch Mathews, BYU vs. Utah ($6,600); Tim Crawley, San Jose State vs. Georgia State ($4,700); Nate Phillips, Arizona vs. New Mexico ($4,700)
