Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Machado saw his homer total decrease for a fourth straight campaign in 2025, though his 27 long balls still gave him 10 straight full-length seasons with at least 25 homers. The veteran third baseman was more active on the basepaths with his highest number of steals (14) since 2018, while his .275/.335/.460 slash line was almost exactly what he posted in 2024. Machado produced an .855 OPS across his first four years with San Diego, but over the past three years he has a .792 OPS. His 123 wRC+ in 2025 still ranked fourth among qualified third basemen, but it's worth noting the drop-off as he heads into his age-33 campaign. His durability remains a strength, as Machado has missed 12 games or fewer in 10 of the past 11 seasons. Additional regression doesn't appear to be imminent given his 51.4 percent hard-hit rate and 12.9 percent barrel rate last season, so Machado is a safe bet for another strong season in 2026, even if he isn't quite the MVP-level contributor he was earlier in his career. Blasts fifth homer
Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.
Analysis
Machado gave the Padres a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with his blast. The third baseman had gone three games without a multi-hit effort after leaving Monday's game versus the Cubs due to a leg issue. He played all three games against the White Sox at third base, so he appears to be fine at this point. For the season, the 33-year-old is up to five homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored, one stolen base and four doubles over 31 contests, and he's hitting .229 with a .742 OPS.

Among active players, only Giancarlo Stanton has more seasons with 25-plus homers than Machado. The Human Statue has 10 such seasons, while Machado and Mike Trout are tied at nine. Machado continues to produce at a consistent level, as 2024 was his 10th career season with at least 600 plate appearances, something only Carlos Santana and Freddie Freeman have done more frequently. Last season offered a view of Machado's younger days with him stealing double-digit bases for the first time since the 2021 season and nearly swiping as many in 2024 (11) as he did the previous two seasons combined (12). He pulled that off despite another season in which his walk rate declined, as it has now each of the past four years. He still makes excellent contact, but the lower walk rate means the batting average is going to be at the mercy of the batted-ball luck dragons. There is little reason to think Machado will not have another 600-plus plate appearances with the voluminous numbers that go along with that playing time. Consistent production such as what Machado offers is difficult to find in these volatile days.
