2026 Fantasy Outlook
Marino had a surprising breakout campaign in 2025-26 as a top-four fixture for the Mammoth. He put up four goals, 32 assists, 68 blocked shots, 55 shots on net and a plus-42 rating over 80 regular-season games. He was a defensive ace, but he added very little physicality and didn't have the shot volume to sustain such production in the long run. Marino is also not a power-play candidate, and he doesn't block many shots compared to blueliners with similarly defensive usage. The 29-year-old is poised to fill the same role in 2026-27, but his assist-heavy production means he will depend on his teammates. Look for 25-30 points and a strong plus-minus rating, but the lack of category coverage reduces his fantasy appeal. Read Past Outlooks
Staying in Utah
Marino signed an eight-year, $54 million contract extension with the Mammoth on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.
ANALYSIS
Marino's new deal will begin in 2027-28. The 2015 sixth-round pick set new career highs in 2025-26 with 32 assists, 36 points and a plus-42 rating over 80 regular-season games. While he's certainly more of a shutdown defenseman, if Marino can even somewhat replicate his production from last season, he will be a solid depth option for fantasy managers in deeper formats. However, his lack of all-around contributions cap his ceiling in smaller leagues.

2020
Marino missed the first 42 games of 2024-25 after undergoing lower-back surgery in October. Following his return in January, the right-shot blueliner chipped in one goal, 13 helpers, 30 shots on goal, nine hits, 46 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating across 35 appearances with Utah. The 28-year-old is essentially a non-factor with the man advantage -- he hasn't recorded a power-play point since the 2021-22 campaign with Pittsburgh. Marino has reached the 25-point mark in three of his six years in the NHL, so if he can stay healthy, that threshold is attainable. The Massachusetts native can probably be avoided on draft day if you're in a standard league, but he could be worth an in-season add if his offense picks up steam.

Re-upping with Utah?
Marino and the Mammoth are closing in on an eight-year, $54 million contract extension, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Marino is entering the final season of the six-year, $26.4 million contract he signed with Pittsburgh in January of 2021. The right-shot blueliner had a career year in 2025-26, registering four goals, 36 points, 68 blocks and an outstanding plus-42 rating over 80 regular-season games. Assuming he puts the finishing touches on a contract extension with Utah, Marino is set to continue being a top-four fixture while contributing on the penalty kill for years to come.
