Last week's lineup looked like a tournament winner to start out with Tevin Coleman, Nate Sudfeld and Matt Miller starting strong, but blowout victories led Arkansas and Washington to hit the brakes in their respective games, slowing the production rates of players Cyler Miles and Bradley Marquez. This week's lineup will hopefully stay hot all day Saturday.
QUARTERBACK
Maty Mauk - Missouri vs. Indiana ($8,300)
If there's a must-start this week on Draft Kings, it has to be Mauk. Missouri and Indiana are both prone to shootouts, and Mauk has proven himself to be one of the country's elite fantasy quarterbacks. In a game with an over/under of 73.5, Mauk (13 total touchdowns in three games) is a threat to post ridiculous numbers.
Tanner McEvoy - Wisconsin vs. Bowling Green ($5,000)
Anyone who saw the Wisconsin/LSU game must think it madness to consider McEvoy in DFS, but I'm willing to take the plunge this week. As bad as his numbers were against the Tigers, it was horrible wide receiver play that was largely to blame and, as McEvoy showed against Western Illinois last week, he has considerable dual-threat upside at home against a subpar defense. McEvoy carried the Badgers offense in his last game, completing 23-of-28 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns while running for 55 yards and another touchdown, and now he has a home game against a Bowling Green defense that allowed 1,237 yards (8.1 YPA) and seven touchdowns through the air in three games.
QB Alternatives: Travis Wilson - Utah at Michigan ($5,600), Nate Sudfeld - Indiana at Missouri ($6,600)
RUNNING BACK
T.J. Yeldon - Alabama vs. Florida ($5,400)
Yeldon's shaky workload is terrifying, but this price is cheap for a starting running back with 28 career rushing touchdowns on 421 carries (once every 15 carries). The Florida run defense isn't an ideal matchup, but Florida couldn't shut down Kentucky at home last week, and the Alabama offense heads into this one hot under the leadership of emerging starting quarterback Blake Sims. Furthermore, Yeldon's career averages against SEC teams are spectacular - in 17 games he has 1,734 yards and 20 touchdowns as a runner.
Derrick Green - Michigan vs. Utah ($5,300)
Like Yeldon, this price is just too tempting for a feature back playing at home in an offense that figures to score at least 28 points Saturday. Green has no role as a receiver, but his 50 carries for 332 yards and three scores through three games give him an encouraging floor. Utah gave up 133 yards on 23 carries at home against Idaho State back Xavier Finney in Week 1.
RB Alternatives: Paul James - Rutgers at Navy ($6,000), Russell Hansbrough - Missouri vs. Indiana ($5,900), Corey Clement - Wisconsin vs. Bowling Green ($5,300)
WIDE RECEIVER
Devin Funchess (leg) - Michigan vs. Utah ($6,200)
Double check Funchess' status Saturday morning, and be prepared to swap him for a Missouri/Indiana wideout like Bud Sasser ($5,600), Shane Wynn ($5,500), Darius White ($4,400) or Jimmie Hunt ($4,800). Funchess sat out Saturday against Miami (OH) with a leg injury he suffered against Notre Dame the week prior. Funchess played through he injury against Notre Dame, though, and he was walking with neither a boot nor a limp Saturday. Coach Brady Hoke refused to talk about Funchess' status for Saturday, but at a glance it's hard to see how Funchess will sit against a high-scoring Utah squad if he didn't have a boot or a limp the week prior, not to mention two full weeks to recover from whatever it is he might be dealing with. A loss at home to Utah might be enough for Hoke to lose his job. If Funchess does play in this one, though, it's easy to foresee a huge game. Utah is scoring 57.5 points per game heading into this one, and Funchess is highly likely to score if Michigan exceeds 21 or so points.
Nelson Spruce - Colorado vs. Hawaii ($6,700)
Hawaii's defense almost never plays well with the jet lag it takes on for road games, so the Colorado offense should find it easy to put up points. The Colorado defense is awful anywhere, though, so the Warriors should be able to score often enough to keep Colorado out of clock-killing mode until the fourth quarter. With 24 receptions for 346 yards and six scores on an offense that respectively posted 85, 872 and eight in the same categories, Spruce has high odds of profiting at whatever rate the Colorado offense does.
Alex Erickson, Wisconsin vs. Bowling Green ($4,900)
Bowling Green has been horrible against the pass this year, and it should be as inept as ever in Camp Randall. That should equal an efficient game for quarterback Tanner McEvoy and, since Erickson has 13 of Wisconsin's 32 completions this year, that makes Erickson a strong bet to post a high reception total.
WR Alternatives: Ricky Seals-Jones - Texas A&M at SMU ($4,600), Shay Fields - Colorado vs. Hawaii ($4,800), Leonte Carroo - Rutgers at Navy ($4,800)
TIGHT END
Cam Serigne, Wake Forest vs. Army ($3,500)
Although Serigne wasn't a high recruit last year, mostly getting looks from MAC and FCS schools, he's been red-hot to start the 2014 season, his redshirt freshman year. Quarterback John Wolford has looked his way constantly, and Serigne leads the team with 15 receptions for 171 yards. He's yet to score, but that's bound to happen soon if he keeps getting so many targets.
TE Alternatives: Westlee Tonga, Utah at Michigan ($3,000), Sam Arneson, Wisconsin vs. Bowling Green ($2,900)
FLEX
Ricky Seals-Jones, WR - Texas A&M at SMU ($4,600)
Seals-Jones has three touchdowns on the year (and four in his four career games) but has yet to enjoy a truly breakout game in 2014. With Speedy Noil out this week, RSJ could post his biggest box score yet against SMU. Granted, A&M's starters won't last long against SMU - the Mustangs are one of the most pitiful teams in the country - but Seals-Jones is averaging a touchdown every 4.3 catches, and you have to like his chances of reaching or exceeding that mark with Noil (12 catches in three games) sitting out.
