Signs one-year pact with G-Men
The Giants signed Austin to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a nice landing spot for Austin, in the sense there isn't a whole lot of proven competition at the wide receiver spot behind Malik Nabers (knee), as Austin looks like a current favorite to be part of the team's three-wide set alongside Malik Nabers (knee) and Darius Slayton after Wan'Dale Robinson left in free agency. Austin failed to gel with Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh last season, securing just 31 of 55 targets for 372 yards and three touchdowns across 14 regular-season appearances. Austin averaged 15.2 yards per catch in 2024 and offers theoretical big-play potential.

Austin looked like an emerging player through four games last season. During that time, the receiver averaged three catches and 33 yards. However, the Steelers offense was a mess. The team relied heavily on their rushing attack. That led to Austin catching six passes for 44 yards over his last 13 games. Although it’s possible that Austin sees an increase in snaps this season, but the receiver may have to hold off rookie Roman Wilson for a prominent role in the offense. Also, it is worrisome that Arthur Smith is the offensive coordinator. The new coach will likely continue to feature the run game. As a result, Austin may not see enough targets to have a breakout season.

Top-40 free agent per Popper
Austin is ranked 40th among available free agents by Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Popper believes Austin could break out in a system that gets him the ball in space more frequently. The 5-foot-9, 162-pound wide receiver didn't play a significant role in the Steelers' offense, posting just 372 receiving yards in 14 regular-season games in 2025. Popper projects a three-year, $33 million contract for Austin, who is set to turn 27 years old in March.
