Shawn Smith Referee Stats: What Bettors Need to Know for Super Bowl 2026

While we're still more than a week away from Super Bowl LX, we now know who will be calling the shots in Santa Clara, with veteran official Shawn Smith being tabbed to officiate the contest for the first time.

The veteran official has been an NFL referee since 2018, while serving as an umpire between 2015 and 2018. To get a sense of the job that Smith's done on the field, RotoWire.com broke down the numbers on his performance, betting wise, during the 2025-26 regular season before you head to sports betting sites.

Over/Under Total

9-8

When taking a look at Smith's performance against the spread this season, it seems like it's probably a smart decision to take the Seattle Seahawks come Feb. 8. That's because Seattle, who are currently listed as a 4.5-point favorite in Super Bowl LX at NFL betting sites, would be the 12th out of 18 teams in that position to win a game this season that Smith's officiated.

Overall, favorites have a 11-6 record straight-up in games that Smith's refereed, while those teams are 9-8 against the spread and when it comes to clearing the pregame over/under.

For those wondering, this year's over/under in Santa Clara is currently listed at 45.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook, with New England and Seattle doing their best to clear that number come a week from Sunday.

Breaking down the tape a bit further, Smith's 2025-26 season has seen him call two games involving the AFC champs, with New England going 2-0 (both straight up and against the spread), calling the Patriots AFC Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans, which saw the AFC East champs pull off a 28-16 home victory after entering the day as a three-point favorite.

The Patriots also won and covered in Week 13 when they played the New York Giants, pulling off a 33-15 home victory in Smith's other assignment involving New England this season.

Smith has not called a Seahawks game this season.

What we know in total about Smith's 2025-26 games called log is that his home winning percentage (42.78%) and penalties per game called (12.13) were both below the league averages of 49.37% and 12.52, meaning we could see a wide open game with fewer penalties called in the Bay Area come Feb. 8.

For now, what we know is that the NFC-champion Seahawks are a consensus 4.5-point favorite in Super Bowl LX entering the final bye week of the NFL postseason, with one of the league's veteran officials readying to call what should be a must-watch game between the Patriots and Seahawks at Levi's Stadium.
