Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Witt finished as the runner-up for AL MVP in 2024 but wasn't able to fully replicate those efforts last season, though he was still an elite producer with a .295/.351/.501 slash line in 157 games. He finished 2025 with 23 homers, 88 RBI and 99 runs, all of which were notable drops from the previous season, but he did improve his stolen-base total to 38 while being caught three fewer times. That overall production may be a more reasonable year-to-year expectation for Witt than his 169 wRC+ in 2024, though he can certainly still elevate that while entering his age-26 campaign. Even with that slightly lower production, Witt is arguably the top power/speed combo in the league and has all but cemented himself as MLB's premier shortstop heading into 2026, especially when factoring in his top-level defense. Exits early with knee issue
Witt (knee) exited Thursday's contest against the Cardinals in the fourth inning, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Witt torqued his right knee/leg while attempting to make a sliding stop at shortstop in the top of the fourth inning, and he ultimately exited the game before his next at-bat in the bottom of the frame. Witt will finish his night having gone 2-for-2 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Tyler Tolbert has replaced him in the lineup, batting second versus St. Louis.

Progress is not always linear, but Witt has been on an upward trajectory since breaking into the big leagues as the consensus No. 1 overall prospect in baseball in 2022. He improved upon all three elements of his slash line once again in 2024, adding nearly 60 points to his batting average to lead the majors at .332. At age 23/24, Witt played in all but one game for the Royals, earning his first All-Star selection and leading Kansas City to its first postseason appearance since 2015. He totaled 234 runs-plus-RBI while reaching 30 homers for a second straight season. The one area of decline was in the stolen-base department, as he fell back to 31 steals after totaling 49 the year prior. He was caught stealing 12 times in 43 attempts, but Witt ranked at the top of the sprint speed leaderboard at 30.5 ft/sec. Amazingly, there's still upside if he can improve his efficiency on the basepaths, and regardless he's already an elite fantasy producer. Despite a modest supporting cast, Witt should arguably be considered right alongside Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge at the very top of 2025 fantasy drafts.

Paces shortstops in All-Star ballot
Witt leads all shortstops in the American League following the first 2026 MLB All-Star Game ballot update revealed Monday, according to Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com.
Analysis
Witt has a sizable lead at shortstop based on the first ballot update, and it would be surprising if another player overtakes him in the race for a starting role. Witt, who's searching for the first All-Star starting nod of his career, leads all shortstops with 890,575 votes while the second-place player, the Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez, who's currently dealing with a wrist injury, has over 500,000 fewer votes at 354,651.
