DFS College Basketball: Thursday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Thursday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Prize pools are finally starting to heat up in DFS College Basketball! Even though Thursday only features a four-game slate, DraftKings is giving out $20k to first place in its $15 Pull Up Jumper, and even FanDuel is getting in on the action with a $10k top prize in the $5.55 All-American. Let's go ahead and get get started on a slate that screams "stars and scrubs."

Targets

1. Remy Martin, G, Arizona State ($9,200 DK, $7,600 FD)

Picking a spot to spend up on this slate is difficult, as all the top options seem to have their downside. But based on some of the tremendous value plays below, there will be plenty of room to fit in studs. Why not Martin, an elite-usage option in the game with the highest over/under (148) of the four-game set. He's coming off a tough game against Villanova and another blowout where he wasn't needed a ton, so perhaps there's some leverage to be had here. Martin should absolutely be used on FanDuel with the price break. I also like Timmy Allen ($9,000 DK, $7,400 FD) a lot, who is a walking double-double great for cash games. His game's over/under is a dozen points less, however, which is why I landed on Martin.

2. Hameir Wright, F, Washington ($4,600 DK, $4,400 FD)

Wright has started both games for Washington this season after starting a combined 55 over the previous two years. While he was only on the court 14 minutes in the opener against Baylor, that was upped to 37 Wednesday against Cal Riverside. That game isn't in the DraftKings game log, so perhaps it explains the pricing? Wright ended up with 30.5 DK points despite his team only scoring 42 total points. The matchup isn't great against Utah, but with KenPom projecting 64 points for the Huskies and Wright being the only legitimate post presence, he's the perfect salary relief option.

3. Since the pricing doesn't seem to have properly adjusted, we'll highlight two value plays for Florida to help get us some salary relief.

Tre Mann, G, Florida ($4,100 DK, $3,800 FD)

Mann started Wednesday against Navy, and while he only played 22 minutes, put up an efficient 19 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Mann averaged 17.7 mpg for the Gators last year and even started four games, so it's not like he's an unknown. He also led the team in shot rate. Lock him in.

Colin Castleton, F, Florida ($3,200 DK, $3,400 FD)

Castleton started and logged 27 minutes in the opener, putting up nine points and eight rebounds. Meanwhile, Omar Payne came off the bench and had more fouls (3) than points (2). Again, with Florida playing a back-to-back, the pricing hasn't really had time to adjust. Boston College plays at a top-100 tempo, and while I generally regard center Steffon Mitchell as a better player, Castleton will have a three-inch height advantage.

Fades

1. Alonzo Verge, G, Arizona State ($7,100, $6,600 FD)

The senior guard was the team's top contributor against Villanova, but missed the last game against Houston Baptist due to COVID-19 contact tracing. It's anyone's guess when he'll be cleared to return, so be sure to keep an eye on the @RotoWireCBB twitter account during the day. Even if he's back, he seems a tad over-priced, especially considering the return of Kimani Lawrence, who started 23 of 30 games last season and will continue to cut into the workload of the wings.

2. Isaiah Whaley, F, Connecticut ($7,500 DK, $6,900 FD)

I'm not ready to buy a sudden emergence from Whaley, especially considering UConn's first two opponents rank No. 298 and No. 339, per KenPom. There's also the mystery of Josh Carlton, who started 64 times in 64 games over the last two seasons, but has just three minutes off the bench in two games in 2020. Whaley fits more into the "small ball" mold, but with USC rolling out a pair of seven-footers in its starting lineup with Evan and Isaiah Mobley, the 6-11 Carlton will need to be used more.
