2026 Fantasy Outlook
Bedard's third NHL season finally started to look like the stardom everyone projected. The 20-year-old center produced 30 goals and 45 assists across 69 games, fired 226 shots and added seven goals and 14 assists on the power play despite Chicago again falling well short of the playoff race. The minus-18 rating reflects the team around him more than his own play. Despite a shoulder injury that will cost him a month or two to start the season, project a 30-goal, 70-plus-point campaign in 2026-27, with real upside if Chicago adds a finishing winger. Bedard is an early-round target whose age curve still skews dramatically up. The supporting cast remains the limiting factor, not the player himself. Read Past Outlooks

Set for four-month absence

Bedard will be sidelined for four months following shoulder surgery, the Blackhawks announced Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Based on his recovery timeline, Bedard figures to miss the first month or two of the regular season. The 20-year-old center was limited to just 69 regular-season games last year, but he still managed to set new personal bests in goals (30) and points (75). While he could certainly aim even higher with a full season, Bedard should still offer plenty of fantasy upside even with his absence.

2023
Bedard made modest improvements in his sophomore season, going from 22 goals to 23 and 39 assists to 44. However, his scoring rates per 60 minutes were all worse in 2024-25 than in his rookie campaign. Chicago hasn’t put him in a great situation to succeed, surrounding him with several subpar linemates. Still, Bedard led the team in assists, points (67), power-play goals (11), power-play points (29), game-winning goals (five) and shots on net (195) across 82 games last season. He will continue to see big minutes on the team’s top line in 2025-26, which probably won’t help him improve his plus-minus rating. However, the first-overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft has abundant offensive potential, and he should make strides forward this campaign. Bedard’s entry-level contract expires next summer, giving him plenty of motivation for 2025-26, but he would benefit tremendously from a high-tier winger upgrade.
Bedard, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 Entry Draft and a player many consider to be a generational talent, was fantastic as an 18-year-old rookie in 2023-24, racking up 22 goals, 61 points, 21 power-play points and 206 shots on goal while averaging 19:47 of ice time in a top-line role in 68 regular-season appearances. A fractured jaw kept Bedard sidelined for 14 games from early January through mid-February, but he picked up right where he left off upon his return from injury, racking up seven goals and 28 points through the final 29 games of the campaign. With Chicago reportedly making a concerted effort to surround Bedard with better talent up front heading into 2024-25, the 18-year-old pivot could easily threaten the 30-goal and 80-point marks if he's able to play a full 82-game season in 2024-25. Just keep in mind that his plus-minus rating - Bedard finished last season with an ugly minus-44 rating - will likely remain a sore spot for at least one more year as the Blackhawks continue their rebuild.
Players like Bedard don't come around all that often. He was unreal in the WHL, scoring 71 goals and 143 points in 57 contests with Regina last season and was similarly dominant in the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship, leading Canada with nine goals and 23 points in seven games. Bedard's offensive skills already appear to be on par with the NHL elite, and the comparisons to the likes of Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby are understandable. However, Bedard hasn't proven anything yet. His resume and skill set made it easy for Chicago to pick him with the first overall pick, but top selections don't always work out and even those that do sometimes have some growing pains. Those that take Bedard in single-season fantasy drafts will be assuming some risk, but there's also real potential for him to hit the ground running and make Blackhawks fans think back on Patrick Kane, who won the Calder Trophy in 2008 after scoring 21 goals and 72 points in 82 outings.

Potential injury in training
CChicago Blackhawks
July 2, 2026
Bedard sustained what appeared to be a left shoulder injury during his offseason training Thursday, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The severity of Bedard's injury wasn't immediately known. Given that there's more than two months until training camp, Bedard has a long runway to heal up. If the injury threatens the start of the season for the center, the Blackhawks will likely provide an official update. Bedard is also a restricted free agent in need of a new contract, so he and the team will be in communication regardless of his injury status.
