2025 Fantasy Outlook
After three seasons in New Orleans, Valanciunas signed a three-year deal with the Wizards ahead of the 2024-25 season. He appeared in 49 contests (12 starts) with Washington, putting up his usual stats, but was traded to Sacramento at the deadline. Valanciunas was a backup behind Domantas Sabonis with the Kings, playing only 16.9 minutes a night. This offseason, Valanciunas was traded to Denver in exchange for Dario Saric. Valanciunas contemplated a move to Greece to play for Panathinaikos and see more playing time, but he eventually agreed to fulfill his contract and join the Nuggets to back up Nikola Jokic. The three-time MVP doesn't miss many games and plays a ton of minutes, so there may not be a ton of usage to go around. Valanciunas played a career-low 18.8 minutes per game last season. He'd never been below 22 in his previous 12 campaigns, but hasn't averaged fewer than 10 points a night since his rookie year with Toronto in 2012-12. Read Past Outlooks
Out for at least four weeks
Valanciunas will be re-evaluated in four weeks due to a right calf strain that he suffered during the Nuggets' 106-103 win over the Raptors on Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Nuggets are now down both of their top big men, with Valanciunas joining Nikola Jokic (knee) on the shelf. Valanciunas made his first start of the season Wednesday and was slated to take on a larger role in the absence of Jokic, but with both of them now sidelined, the Nuggets will turn to DaRon Holmes and Zeke Nnaji to fill in the gap at center.

Valanciunas was a coveted player heading into the 2024 offseason and several teams were interested in signing him as a free agent. Still, he chose to join the Wizards on a three-year, $30 million contract. Valanciunas is expected to operate as the Wizards' starting center to open the 2024-25 season, but the team signed him to mentor Alex Sarr, the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, as well. That off-court role shouldn't impact his fantasy upside, and there's a chance Valanciunas could be in line for a bounce-back performance. The veteran center posted down numbers in 2023-24, but the averages of 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game remain decent for fantasy purposes. Considering Valanciunas could operate as the Wizards' third-best offensive option behind Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma, he should have a decent shot at averaging a double-double for the fifth time over the last six campaigns. Even if he's not featured on offense, his traditional big man stats should be enough to make him valuable in all formats as long as he remains a starter. The center position gets thin outside of the top-tier players such as Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid and Bam Adebayo.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Injury severity unclear
Nuggets coach David Adelman said he's unsure how severe Valanciunas' calf injury is, Bennett Durando of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
"I don't know how serious it is. We're just getting used to this," Adelman said. "It just seems like every night, somebody has something. The cool thing about it is there's somebody else to get an opportunity from it. And that's how you have to look at it. Hopefully Jonas heals up correctly. Hopefully it's not serious, just like I've said the other 19 times this month." Valanciunas started Wednesday's game in place of Nikola Jokic, who is expected to miss several weeks with a knee injury. However, Valanciunas left the game for good after 23 minutes when he was diagnosed with a calf strain. If he ends up missing time, it appears that the Nuggets will rely on DaRon Holmes.
