Fight Stat Wrap: UFC Glasgow Recap

Fight Stat Wrap: UFC Glasgow Recap

This article is part of our Fight Stat Wrap series.

The UFC returned to Scotland with a rare Sunday show. In the main event, Santiago Ponzinibbio scored a major upset over Gunnar Nelson. The rest of the card did not feature the biggest names, but overall there were plenty of interesting fights. The highest scoring DraftKings lineup features Ponzinibbio, Paul Felder, Khalil Rountree, Alexandre Pantoja, Daniel Henry and Leslie Smith. The following is a by-the-numbers recap that highlights the stats and milestones that stood out on the main card, with stats courtesy of FightMetric.com.

Santiago Ponzinibbio shocks Gunnar Nelson in the main event

This was a big win for Ponzinibbio, and it was also unexpected. Not only was he the underdog in this fight, but he had not shown that kind of power since his first UFC knockout in 2014. This was his fourth first-round knockout in the UFC. In those other bouts, he needed to land 10 (against Wendell Oliveira), 48 (against Andreas Stahl) and 38 (against Court McGee) significant strikes in order to score the finish. In this bout, "Gente Boa" was not only taking on a higher level of opposition, but he also needed only seven significant strikes to end the fight.

On DraftKings, Ponzinibbio ended up with 103.5 points, which is a respectable score. However, on this night it was only good enough for sixth best. That said, he was still part of the highest possible scoring lineup.

Cynthia Calvillo gets her hand raised against Joanne Calderwood

Prior to this fight, Calvillo was a big favorite. Many pundits were picking her to run through Calderwood. The Team Alpha Male fighter ended up winning, but it was not that dominant of a performance. In the building, the fans seemed to think that Calderwood deserved the decision. The Scottish fighter attempted 176 significant strikes compared to only 111 for Calvillo, so it is possible that the activity swayed the crowd. However, Calderwood missed a majority of those attempts, and the strikes were not the type that finish fights.

Despite the win, it had to be a frustrating night for Calvillo supporters. At the end of the first and third rounds, she dominated the ground exchanges, but she did not seem committed to getting takedowns during the rest of the fight. She attempted five and landed two takedowns during the fight. Calvillo's talent is obvious, but she needs to find a way to put it all together.

Calvillo finished with a diverse DraftKings score consisting of 54 significant strikes (27 points), two passes (6 points), two takedowns (10 points) and a 30-point decision-win bonus for a grand total of 73. Considering she was as high as a -210 favorite, this score has to be a disappointment for fantasy owners.

Paul Felder makes quick work of Stevie Ray

Felder has always had the tools, but in his last two fights, he has put it together and posted back-to-back knockouts. In this fight, he outlanded Ray 23-to-5 on significant strikes. He landed a brutal knee in the clinch and then followed it up with hard strikes on the ground. Prior to this fight, Ray had not been stopped in the UFC.

Felder had the fourth highest DraftKings score on the night with 114.5 points, and he was a member of the best possible lineup.

Jack Marshman escapes with win against Ryan Janes

Marshman was the biggest betting favorite on this card, but he did not really look like it in the fight. He had a lot of trouble with Janes' reach and ended up being outlanded on significant strikes 83 to 75. Marshman's activity was up to par as he attempted 217 significant strikes, but he normally lands more than 34 percent of those attempts.

Marshman finished with only 67.5 DraftKings points. That was the 12th highest score on the night and the lowest score for a winning fighter.

Khalil Rountree shows his power once again against Paul Craig

After beginning his UFC career with a pair of lackluster performances, Rountree has now bounced back with impressive first-round knockouts. First, he starched Daniel Jolly in 52 seconds, and here, he knocked out Craig in 4:56. In the two fights, he scored two knockouts while only landing 18 significant strikes. There is no doubt that this is impressive. However, until he is forced to defend himself on the ground again, there will be justified questions about his game.

The quick knockout netted players 107.5 DraftKings points. The score was the fifth highest on the night, and Rountree was part of the highest-scoring lineup.

Justin Willis earns lackluster victory over James Mulheron

Willis was clearly pacing himself in this fight, but he may have held too much back. He was clearly the better striker and landed three of his four takedown attempts. However, he seemed content to win the exchanges and take a decision instead of going for the finish. He finished with 52 significant strikes, landed at a 57 percent clip.

Willis earned players 77 DraftKings points, which was the 10th highest score of the night.
