DFS KBO: Wednesday Cheat Sheet

In contrast to Tuesday, Wednesday's five-game KBO slate seems to offer a more formidable group of pitchers, upping our options in that area while making the selection of bats and stacks a bit more of a challenging process. Luckily, there is a bit of a feast-or-famine quality to the arms taking the hill, so there is a group of targetable hurlers in action as well. Consequently, there are three games with projected double-digit run totals.

As customary, I'll highlight two solid pitching options at different price points, followed by some one-off hitters across the salary scale that could also prove profitable for cash games and/or tournaments. I'll then break down the two stacks that I trust the most to potentially string some above-average offensive numbers together and pay off for you in tournaments.

Pitchers

Min Ho Lee ($9,800) checks in averaging 12.4 DK points per start, along with a 4-2 record and 2.97 ERA. The right-hander has also mastered the same Lions squad he'll face Wednesday on two prior occasions, posting a 1.46 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and .154 BAA across the 12.1 innings covering those starts. Lee has demonstrated some nice upside on occasion with a pair of DK point tallies north of 20 within his last eight trips to the mound, one of those coming against Samsung back on June 2. While he's had a couple of rough outings, that's less likely to unfold against the Lions, which check in with modest averages (by KBO standards) of 4.9 runs and 9.1 hits per game, along with 82 homers.  

Mike Wright ($8,000), much like Lee, had a few rocky moments, but he arrives to this start with solid 7-4 record and 3.97 ERA. He's churned out quality starts in three of his past four trips to the mound as well, and he's held the opposing Eagles to a .105 average and 0.83 WHIP over 12 innings across two starts. Hanwha continues to be the most punchless offense in the KBO as well, as they own league-low per-game marks in runs (3.5), hits (7.8) and home runs (0.5). Moreover, the Eagles are also allowing a KBO-high 5.9 runs per contest, significantly upping the chances of Wright enjoying ample run support.

Top Targets

Jose Fernandez ($5,700) comes at a discount over more expensive sluggers Mel Rojas Jr. ($6,500) and Sung Bum Na ($6,000), and he may be set up better than both of them to maximize a return on his salary. Fernandez faces a Kia squad he's tormented all season, as he owns a .405 average, two doubles, a home run and eight RBI against the Tigers across 10 games. The slugger also carries a .409 average and figure of 11.4 DK points per game over the last 10, and while opposing starter Drew Gagnon has been a solid pitcher on the road, he allowed a .406/.449/.797 slash and .509 wOBA to the 69 left-handed bats he faced during his MLB career from 2018-19.

Hoon Jung ($4,800) is a player highly capable of outpacing his current salary, as he's averaging 9.9 DK points and comes in with back-to-back double-digit fantasy-point tallies. He's also posted a .333 average and .442 on-base percentage across nine games versus the Wyverns, and his greatest asset might be his knack for timely hitting. Jung owns a spectacular .414 average with runners in scoring position this season, a figure he could well improve on while facing a suspect starter like SK's Seung Geon Baek, who's allowed a 7.71 ERA and 2.19 WHIP over six appearances (four starts).

Jeong Dae Bae ($4,300) still carries an impressive .321/.398/.488 line for the season despite a current slump that sees him hitting just .206 over the last 10 games. The veteran brings some nice pop in his bat, as he's belted 21 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 40 RBI while adding 15 steals. Bae has also been an outstanding home performer, as he sports a .379/.436/.602 slash with 21 XBH over 44 games in Suwon KT Wiz Park.

ALSO CONSIDER: Mel Rojas ($6,500); Sung Bum Na ($6,000); Aaron Altherr ($5,800); Hyun Soo Kim ($5,600); Jung Hoo Lee ($5,500)

Bargain Bats

Joo Hwan Choi ($3,800) somehow saw a $200 price drop overnight despite posting 26 DK points against the Tigers on Tuesday, so he's certainly in play as a bargain bat. The left-handed slugger now has three straight multi-hit outings, and he's now hitting .417 with one homer and six RBI across his last 10 games. Choi also gets a favorable lefty-righty matchup against Gagnon, whose issues with left-handed bats during his MLB career were already discussed in Fernandez's entry.

Dae Ho Lee ($3,600) continues to generate production befitting a much higher salary, as he owns a .296/.360/.473 line for the season that includes 19 doubles, 13 homers and 65 RBI. What's more, Lee has hit .318 for the season in 41 home games, and his .310 average with runners in scoring position underscores how effective he's been at timely hitting. Lee also stands to benefit from the same advantageous matchup against Baek discussed earlier in his teammate Jung's entry.

Stack to Consider

Twins vs. Yoon Dong Heo: Eun Sung Chae ($4,100); Hyun Soo Kim ($5,600); Hyung Jong Lee ($4,600); Roberto Ramos ($5,200)

Heo comes into Wednesday's matchup with a bloated 5.13 ERA and 1.86 WHIP, along with a .282 BAA and just 13 strikeouts over his first 26.1 innings. He's also given up five earned runs on 11 hits over two prior starts against the Twins, while LG checks in averaging an impressive 5.8 runs per game and with 100 home runs over 92 games.

Chae has averaged 8.2 DK points per game, and he owns a .333/.377/.549 line across 39 away contests. He's also been an RBI machine, courtesy of a stellar .383 average with runners in scoring position that he's managed with the help of 13 doubles, one triple and nine homers.

Kim has been even more lethal than Chae driving in runners, as he boasts an eye-popping .476 average with runners in scoring position, which has helped pave the way for 78 RBI in 92 games. Kim's power numbers continue to be outstanding, as he carries 26 doubles, one triple and 19 homers on his season resume coming into Wednesday. A of the damage he's inflicted on the opposition has come both on the road (.373/.440/.668 in 48 games) and against the Lions (.341/.370/.659 in 10 games).

Lee checks in swinging a hot bat, posting a .369 average and .631 slugging percentage over the last 10 games on the strength of 11 XBH (five doubles, one triple, five home runs) and 13 RBI. Lee rattled off five consecutive double-digit fantasy-point tallies earlier in August, offering a glimpse at the upside he offers at a bargain price.

Finally, Ramos has five homers over his last 10 games alone, and he's belted 27 on the year overall. Additionally, 19 of his round trippers have come on the road, where he carries an outstanding 1.021 OPS over 46 games.

Giants vs. Seung Geon Baek: Hoon Jung ($4,800); Ah Seop Son ($4,100); Dae Ho Lee ($3,600); Dixon Machado ($4,700)

ALSO CONSIDER: Dong Hee Han ($4,100)

Baek's poor numbers were already discussed earlier in Jung's entry, while Lotte checks in with a strong .274 team batting average and 5.1 runs per game.

Jung's positive attributes were already discussed earlier, making him a great start to your stack. Son follows with a very reasonable salary for a player with a .345/.417/.477 line for the season, one that includes 25 doubles, six home runs and 55 RBI. He's also hit .348 at home this season and averaged 10.6 DK points in nine games versus the Wyverns.

Lee and his excellent combination of salary and upside was already detailed in the Bargain Bats section, and Machado is an excellent bookend to the stack. The ex-MLBer has a .308/.368/.455 season line with 22 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 46 RBI. He's also stolen 10 bases and decimated Wyverns pitching for a .412 average, four home runs and 10 RBI across nine games.
