We're set for Game 4 of a Korean Series the Wiz boast a commanding 3-0 lead in. The potential series-ending contest is the subject of DK Showdown tournaments and cash games Thursday.
The Showdown lineup configuration features a Captain's spot that accrues fantasy points at a 1.5x rate, making it especially prudent to choose wisely for that slot. The remaining four lineup positions are Utility spots that accrue fantasy points at a normal rate.
What follows is a look at multiple candidates for each spot:
Captain's Spot Candidates
Been Gwak ($15,600) is the last pitcher standing between the Wiz and a Korean Series title, but he's well-equipped to potentially serve as an effective roadblock. Gwak has recorded four straight double-digit DK-point tallies, including 14.9 against KT in Game 1 of the series when he held the Wiz to one earned run on three hits over five innings. That game isn't the only one where Gwak stymied the Wiz this season, as he's held them to a 1.83 ERA and .156 average across four starts overall.
Jose Fernandez ($15,000) is always in consideration for a multiplier spot due to his sky-high upside. Fernandez went just 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's Game 3, but he'd gone 5-for-8 with two doubles and a walk in the first two games, pushing his average against the Wiz this regular season and postseason to .368 over 18 games. Fernandez gets an opposite-handed matchup against Je Seong Bae, who struggled versus Doosan this season to the tune of a 4.96 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and .295 BAA across three starts.
Utility Candidates
Baek Ho Kang ($9,800) is one KT hitter I'm particularly open to using even if rostering Gwak, as the slugger has followed up an outstanding regular season with some strong work in the postseason as well. Kang is 5-for-8 with four walks and two runs thus far in the series, and he now sports a .313 average, .787 OPS, two doubles, 15 walks, eight RBI and five runs in 19 games against Doosan this season.
Jae Hwan Kim ($9,400) has gone hitless over the last two games of the series after going 2-for-4 with a double in Game 1. However, Kim has flashed significant upside with 28 homers, 108 RBI and an .882 OPS this regular season and postseason, and he sports a .328 average, .968 OPS, three homers and 12 RBI across 19 games versus KT pitching.
Suk Hwan Yang ($9,000) rapped out a pair of singles in Game 3 after going hitless over the first two contests of the series, upping his average versus KT pitching this regular season and postseason to .271. He was also at his best hitting outside his home park all season, furnishing a .303 average and .913 OPS on the road while also slugging 20 of his 28 homers and driving in 66 of his 102 RBI when traveling.
Jung Dae Bae ($7,800) is another Wiz hitter that could be viable even if rostering Gwak, as the veteran has flashed some nice upside with tallies of 17 and 12 DK points in two of the first three games of the series. Bae's success isn't necessarily surprising when considering he's now hitting .338 with an .858 OPS in 19 contests against Doosan this season.
