Week 6 is in the books and didn't feature as many breakout performances aside from Stefon Diggs getting back on track. By the way, looking at last week's column, Diggs was recommended by yours truly. I know, blind squirrel finds a nut and a broken clock is right twice a day. This week there's a lot of close spreads and once again, plenty of big over/unders. Let's look at who to consider this week.
QUARTERBACKS
This is an interesting position this week given the plethora of choices and that many are in a good spot. Russell Wilson ($8,500), Lamar Jackson ($8,400), Deshaun Watson ($8,300) and Matt Ryan ($7,900) are all in play for cash and GPPs. Let's look at some other options. Let's start with "Danny Dimes" also known as Daniel Jones ($7,200). Should we play him in cash? Probably not. The fact is this is a game with an over/under of 50, and the Giants are actually favored by three points. He will get back Evan Engram and probably Sterling Shepard as well so he's in play for tournaments. Another quarterback to consider is the Bills' Josh Allen ($7,700). He's under center for the team with the biggest spread this week, has a strong arm and can add valuable point using his legs for rushing yards/scores. Finally, the Bengals/Jaguars game has interest on both sides of the ball between Andy Dalton ($6,900) and the soon to be mentioned Gardner Minshew ($6,900). Dalton with a stack of Tyler Boyd ($5,600) and Auden Tate ($5,900) with the soon to be mentioned stud running backs could definitely work out in GPPs.
RUNNING BACKS
The conversation for cash games this week has to start with Leonard Fournette ($7,900). He gets a great matchup against the Bengals, who have allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. He should be able to eclipse 100 yards and find the end zone in this one and he's been utilized much more this season in the passing game. It's not out of the realm of possibilities to use both Fournette and Saquon Barkley ($8,200) or Dalvin Cook ($8,300) in the same lineup. It's actually possible to use all three this week in the same lineup given the value at the wide receiver position. Looking further down the running back list, it's possible Latavius Murray ($5,300) ends up being a great value play. While the matchup with the Bear isn't ideal, Murray could end up with 15-plus touches if Alvin Kamara ends up sitting out this contest. Another running back to consider for GPPs is Devin Singletary ($7,800). The Bills running back has looked completely healthy at practice this week, and if the game script plays out, the Bills could be running the ball a lot in the second half. He looks to be the more versatile back between him and Frank Gore ($6,000), and the Dolphins have the worst run defense in football.
WIDE RECEIVERS
D.J. Chark ($6,600) is in a great spot for a bounce-back game facing the Bengals and their injury-riddled secondary. The Jaguars should have no trouble moving the ball and a stack of Chark, Gardner Minshew ($6,900) and Dede Westbrook ($5,400) is worth considering, especially if the Bengals stack the line to stop Fournette. On the other side of the football, Tyler Boyd ($5,600) is an outstanding value for tournaments considering his upside. In his two games at home this season (one against a tough San Francisco defense) Boyd has hit 17.2 and 23.3 fantasy points. The Jaguars are nowhere near the same pass defense without Jalen Ramsey. Marquez Valdes-Scantling ($6,300) is one of my favorite GPP plays at home facing a weak Raider defense that has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. He still has that Aaron Rodgers fellow throwing to him and he should be the top target with Davante Adams missing another game. The trio of Robert Woods ($7,300), Cooper Kupp ($7,800) and Brandin Cooks ($6,700) are in play against Atlanta's terrible pass defense. This should be one of the higher scoring games of the week and pairing two of those players with Jared Goff ($7,800) is a good option. Their prices and last week's performance should keep their ownership at a low level this week.
TIGHT ENDS
The obvious pick of the week who should be used in cash games is Evan Engram ($6,800). The Cardinals are still the worst team against the position and despite missing last week's game, Engram is the fourth top-scoring player at the position on the season. He also has 20-plus fantasy points in two of his five games. The Ravens' Mark Andrews ($6,700) is also in a good spot against the Seahawks, even with the game in Seattle. The highest scoring tight end to this point, Andrews faces a Seattle defense that has allowed fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. If you're looking for a real long shot, try using the Bills' Tyler Kroft ($4,000). He's at the minimum and looked completely healthy in practice this week. The Bills should easily be able to move the ball against the Dolphins.
DEFENSE
It's rare to plug in a defense for cash games and then build around that team and a couple of other of players, but this is one of those weeks. The Buffalo Bills defense/special teams ($5,500) is the most expensive team for good reason facing the Dolphins at home. This is an odd spread with the Bills being 17-point favorites and the over/under being only 41. This suggests the Bills should win this game something like 29-12. The Bills have had an extra week to prepare and they play in one of the better stadiums for home field advantage. If you're look for an option to pivot off Buffalo here, consider using the Chicago Bears ($4,500). The Saints typically don't play as well offensively on the road, and the Bears have also have an extra week to prepare/heal up. This game has the lowest over/under of the week at 38, and Chicago is a three-point favorite.
