Dach got his first taste of the NHL in 2024-25, recording two goals, seven points, 17 PIM, 27 shots and 86 hits across 25 outings with Chicago. The 22-year-old has size at 6-foot-4, and his physical play could serve him well as the Blackhawks look for their youth movement to start the transition from rebuilding to competitive play. Although he doesn’t have a spot secured, getting a third-line role out of training camp wouldn’t be a shocking outcome. Dach and Jason Dickinson were dealt to the Oilers from the Blackhawks on Wednesday in exchange for Andrew Mangiapane and a 2027 first-round pick, freelance insider Frank Seravalli reports.

Dach's inclusion in the deal is a little curious, but it'll give the Alberta native a fresh start in his home province. The 23-year-old forward figures to be no more than a fourth-line option at best for the Oilers this season, and it wouldn't be a shock to see him get scratched or demoted to AHL Bakersfield, as he is still waivers-exempt.
