Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Wood is sort of like the opposite of Jose Ramirez in that he's not particularly interested in pulling flyballs; Wood posted just an 11.3 Pull Air% last season, per Statcast, compared to 30.9% for Ramirez. At 22 years old, Wood showed that he can make it work his way, punishing baseballs up the middle and to the opposite field. Incredibly, 26 of his 31 home runs for the Nationals last season were to the middle or opposite field, according to Baseball Reference. Similarly, Wood is at the opposite end of the contact spectrum from Ramirez, striking out at a 32.1% clip last season compared to 11.0% for Ramirez. It's unfair to compare any young player to a future Hall of Famer, but if Ramirez is the model of stability, Wood should be viewed as a volatile asset with downside risk, especially after he slumped to a .223/.301/.388 line in the second half. While the holes in the profile are glaring, an argument can be made that there is just as much upside as downside considering what the outfielder has already done at such a young age. The steals boost Wood's appeal, though he has not been efficient on the basepaths in his two MLB seasons (29-for-44). Read Past Outlooks
Big day in Cleveland
Wood went 3-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Guardians.
Analysis
Getting the start in left field, Wood took Joey Cantillo deep in the second inning -- just his third homer of the season off a southpaw, compared to 11 against right-handed pitching. Wood has racked up three or more hits in four of the last nine games, slashing a blistering .444/.535/.750 over that stretch with two doubles, three long balls, two steals, eight RBI and 10 runs.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
The 2021 second-round pick made his MLB debut in 2024 and quickly adjusted to The Show with nine homers, 14 steals and a .264/.354/.427 slash line in 79 games. His upside for counting stats should get a boost if the Nationals make any significant additions to their lineup during the offseason. Wood turned 22 years old in September and showed good patience at the plate with an 11.7 percent walk rate, though he also had a 28.7 percent strikeout rate, which is consistent with his swing-and-miss tendencies from the minors. Wood exclusively played left field in his first taste of the majors, but more time at designated hitter could be in store if he's unable to improve upon the minus-seven DRS and minus-six OAA he posted in nearly 700 innings. There's still plenty of upside here given his raw power and strong early performance, but Wood's contact issues could be problematic as he gets more exposed to major-league pitching.
