PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS
GOALKEEPER
Milan Borjan, CAN v. JAM ($4,700): Borjan was excellent in the group stage, and he is in a favorable matchup against Jamaica. The goals have not exactly been flowing in for the Reggae Boyz, with just three goals in the group stage, including a strike from the penalty spot. There is not much to fear in the Jamaican front line, and if Borjan can keep up his fine form in net, he should be in for a solid fantasy night.
DEFENDER
Kemar Lawrence, JAM v. CAN ($5,800): Lawrence had his fantasy breakout game against Curacao, but he has cooled down in the games since. He is responsible for taking both corner kicks and free kicks, so his cross count should be steady, while his defensive work is outstanding. With so many deliveries into the box, he always has a good chance of earning an assist.
Marcel De Jong, CAN v. JAM ($5,000): De Jong's five shots last game is a true rarity for a defender. Although none were on target, that is five points that most defenders can't even come near, and there is always a chance that one of those shots hits the back of the net. De Jong has a history of these type of performances, so the game was no fluke.
Carlos Sanchez, HON v. MEX ($3,600): Sanchez has partial duty over set pieces, which gives him a solid floor and a great chance of hitting value at such a low price. He is the bargain defender of the slate.
MIDFIELDER
Elias Hernandez, MEX v. HON ($11,300): Hernandez got a partial day off last time out against Curacao. He played just over a half an hour and he recorded three shots on goal. Although he only had one cross, the rest of his game log indicates his abundance of crosses, which provides for a very high floor. His attacking precision also gives him a way to reach a high ceiling.
Scott Arfield, CAN v. JAM ($6,800): Arfield has been the player of the tournament for Canada. He has been an absolute revelation in the midfield, and his leadership in the center of the park has helped Canada become a true contender after years of embarrassment in CONCACAF.
Alphonso Davies, CAN v. JAM ($6,000): Davies was rested for most of the match against Honduras after suffering from a knock in the previous game. All the buzz of the tournament is surrounding this kid, who is reportedly being scouted by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. He is tied for the most goals in the Gold Cup with Kevin Parsemain at three.
FORWARD
Cyle Larin, CAN v. JAM ($7,600): Larin was expected to be brought in for the knockout rounds, and he likely didn't expect to have such a favorable matchup in his first appearance. Canada finished second in their group, while many believed they would be one of the third-place teams to advance. Even as the second place team, Canada gets to face another second-place team, rather than a side that finished first. Larin is the target man that Canada needed in the group stage.
Alberth Elis, HON v. MEX ($7,100): Although Elis has failed to record a goal or an assist, his production rate has been quite amazing. Elis has been a menace to his opponents in every minute he has played in this tournament, as he is consistently making dangerous runs down the right wing with or without the ball. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to connect with his teammates to provide an assist, and every time he has looked for goal, the shot just hasn't been right. Perhaps things turn around for Elis' final touch, which is what Honduras will need to have any shot of advancing past Mexico.
Darren Mattocks, JAM v. CAN ($6,300): Mattocks has two goals and two starts in the tournament. He subbed in for the first match and scored, and then he netted a penalty last game against Honduras to help earn the point. He is the main man up top for Jamaica, and really the only formidable option in the Reggae Boyz's attacking core.
