2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
The Steelers took Bernard with the 47th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, finalizing their offseason makeover of a lackluster WR room. It's badly needed, with head coach Mike McCarthy presumably installing a more spread-out offense to replace Arthur Smith's TE-heavy attack. Bernard initially figures to compete with Roman Wilson and others for the No. 3 WR job, behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman -- neither of whom has significant contract guarantees beyond 2026. The rookie has often been described as a high-floor, low-ceiling prospect, after never quite managing elite production in college. He did top 400 yards each of the past three seasons, including a 64-862-7 receiving line and 18-101-2 rushing line at Alabama in 2025. After finishing his college career strong, Bernard performed better than many expected at the 2026 Combine, running a 4.48 40 at 6-foot-1, 206. His 32.5-inch vertical was poor, but a 1.52 10-yard split and 125-inch broad jump suggest no lack of explosiveness overall. Bernard's first task in Pittsburgh will be locking down the No. 3 job. Role as rookie TBD
Bernard, who showed "confident hands and good body control" during OTAs and minicamp, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic, figures to compete with Roman Wilson this summer for work behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman in three-receiver sets.
ANALYSIS
DeFabo notes that Wilson got almost all of the first-team reps in such sets this spring, but the competition between the 2024 third-rounder and Bernard should heat up during training camp. Of the two, Bernard -- whom the Steelers took 47th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft -- brings more fantasy upside down the road, but it remains to be seen how much work he'll see out of the gate in the team's Aaron Rodgers-helmed offense. With that in mind, DeFabo suggests that while the 6-foot-1, 206-pound Alabama product has the versatility to line up everywhere, he "probably will carve out his niche as a big slot" as a rookie.

Behind Wilson throughout spring
Roman Wilson got almost all of the first-team reps in three-receiver sets over Bernard during spring practices, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman are locked into starting roles, leaving one spot available in three-receiver sets. The 2024 third-round pick Wilson has gotten those opportunities so far over the rookie second-round pick Bernard. DeFabo compares Bernard's size and playing style to JuJu Smith-Schuster and believes Bernard will contribute as a rookie, especially when used in the slot. Bernard still has time to overtake Wilson during training camp and the preseason.
