The Preview

After improbably sneaking into a playoff against Hideki Matsuyama late Sunday afternoon at TPC Scottsdale, Chris Gotterup clinched his second victory of the fresh 2026 season while surging all the way up to fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking. The recent Ryder Cup snub looks like a force to be reckoned with as the PGA Tour now heads into its first of eight Signature Events on this year's calendar.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am invites a limited 80-man field to compete for their share of a $20 million purse, accompanied by a contingent of amateurs that range anywhere from professional athletes to musicians to business executives. Featuring one of the shortest layouts we'll see all season without much trouble off the tee, Pebble Beach's wide landing areas will guide these players into tiny but slow-ish poa annua greens, emphasizing the importance of precision on the abundance of shorter approach shots that come from 75-150 yards out. Although fairly chilly temps are forecasted, relatively favorable scoring conditions await throughout Rounds 1-3 before likely precipitation and howling winds arrive during what could be a chaotic Sunday finale.

Based on $200 salary cap

Cream of the Crop

Rory McIlroy - $44

The defending champion paved a unique path to victory as he managed to overpower Pebble Beach off the tee last year, pacing the field in driving distance en route to 20 total birdies and three eagles. Although it's his first PGA Tour start of 2026, McIlroy began the year with a T3-T33 stretch over on the DP World Tour, notably ranking second among the Dubai Invitational field in SG: Putting.

Scottie Scheffler - $42

The pricing algorithm remains broken on Scheffler, who was punished for following up his win at The American Express with a meager T3 at the WM Phoenix Open last week, dropping below names like Justin Rose, Russell Henley and Tommy Fleetwood in Yahoo salary. Scheffler lands right around 3-1 in the outright betting market this week, and the World No. 1 placed T9-T6 here the past two years. He appeared in 22 of 23 lineups (96 percent) in the $25 single entry contest last week, and a similar level of popularity can be expected again this week at such an absurd price tag.

Viktor Hovland - $36

Hovland began his 2026 PGA Tour campaign with a top-10 effort last week at TPC Scottsdale, where he ranked first among the field in putts per GIR on the way to 19 total par-breakers. He also excelled with his approach play while really only struggling with the driver, which Hovland should be able to keep in the bag often this week on a couple less-than-driver tracks. Across five career trips to Pebble Beach, he's never lost strokes off the tee.

Glue Guys

Maverick McNealy - $34

The Stanford University product ranks fourth among this field in SG: Putting on poa annua greens over the last five years, and he went T5-2 here back in 2020 and 2021. He gained strokes across the board at each of his first three stops to start his 2026 season with a T24-10-T13 run from the Sony Open to the WM Phoenix Open, where he ranked sixth in GIR percentage while averaging 5.0 birdies per round.

Patrick Cantlay - $32

Cantlay struggled with the putter on the way to a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open during his last outing, but he remained quite solid from tee to green, and we needed something negative like a "MC" next to Cantlay's name in order to help reduce ownership at a tournament like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he's placed T11 or better in five of eight prior appearances. The California native has averaged 0.38 strokes gained putting per round on poa over the last five years, marking his best surface.

Si Woo Kim - $32

Kim is on an absolute tear, ranking second to only Scheffler in SG: Total over their last 20 rounds. Kim continued the heater with a T3 at TPC Scottsdale last week, where he probably could've coasted to a victory if it weren't for a two-over 73 in Round 1. The only concern for Kim is that he won't be able to maintain these high finishes with lousy putting performances, but at just $32, it's okay to ride one of the best approach players in the world right now.

Bargain Bin

Daniel Berger - $24

Berger is up to eighth in SG: Approach over his last 12 rounds after pacing the WMPO in this category last week, ultimately finishing T16 after making just five total bogeys across 72 holes in the desert. Additionally, he placed top-10 in each of his first three AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am appearances, most recently emerging victorious here back in 2021.

Jake Knapp - $20

The peculiar pricing trend continues with Knapp, who commenced his season with three consecutive finishes of T11 or better since the Sony Open in Hawaii, but somehow resides down here at the minimum salary. He racked up 20 total birdies and an eagle at TPC Scottsdale last week, ultimately ranking fourth in SG: Tee-to-Green and sixth in GIR as well. Looking ahead to Pebble, he's sixth in putting from outside 10 feet over his last 16 rounds on poa annua.

Michael Thorbjornsen - $20

Thorbjornsen might not profile as a stellar course fit this week, but he did just rank sixth in Fairway Prox: 50-125 en route to a T3 result at the WMPO, where he also finished fourth among the field in both GIR and scrambling, on top of pacing the event in SG: Off-the-Tee. Although I don't think he's a great outright bet around 40-1 in the year's first Signature Event, Thorbjornsen's volatility as an AT&T Pro-Am debutant can be targeted at the $20 Yahoo minimum, especially considering his DFS scoring upside on the par-5s.
