2026 Fantasy Outlook
The Mets missed the playoffs, but the first season of Soto's record 15-year, $765 million contract with the club has to be considered a resounding success from an individual standpoint. He smacked a career-high 43 home runs, his second straight season clearing 40, and led all of Major League Baseball in walks with 127 during the regular season. Most surprisingly, Soto tied for fourth in the National League with 38 stolen bases, more than triple his previous career high of 12. The season was not free of adversity, as Soto hit below .220 in May and July, and he had former hitting coach Eric Chavez in his ear trying to get him to be more aggressive. Soto stuck with his approach and in the end was a finalist for NL MVP while earning his sixth career Silver Slugger. The steals seem largely fluky and a return to single digits is even possible given his bottom 13th percentile sprint speed, but everything else appears ultra safe, cementing one of the highest production floors on the board. Keep in mind Soto is still just entering his age-27 season. Read Past Outlooks
On track to return next week
Soto (calf) continues to progress with his baseball activities and remains on track to return from the 10-day injured list next week, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
Analysis
Soto will undergo another MRI just to make sure his right calf strain has sufficiently healed, and as long as that comes back clean he could be activated Tuesday at the beginning of the Mets' next homestand. The 27-year-old outfielder has been sidelined for the past two weeks.

Traded from the Padres to the Yankees in December of 2023, Soto put New York over the top in the American League last season. He posted 8.1 fWAR, the highest mark of his career and fourth in MLB behind Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt and Shohei Ohtani. Soto reached 40 homers for the first time ever, led the AL in runs scored with 128 and powered the club to the pennant with a .327/.469/.633 line and four homers in the postseason. A four-time All-Star before the age of 26, Soto received a historic payday from the Mets this winter. He's staying in New York but shifting from a park that was third best for lefty power, per Statcast, to the park that ranked 21st. His elite plate skills and proven durability give him a sky-high floor and top-five overall upside if his batting average swings toward the high end of his range of potential outcomes. The only drag in the rotisserie game is limited speed, but Soto isn't a total zero in the stolen base category, as he's swiped a total of 25 bags over the last three years.

Short-listed for MVP award
Soto has been announced as a finalist for the 2025 MVP award in the National League.
Analysis
The Mets had a disappointing campaign, but Soto was one of the most impactful offensive players in the National League, hitting .263 with a .921 OPS, 43 homers, 38 steals, 105 RBI, 120 runs scored and a 137:127 K:BB across 160 games in the 2025 regular season. His chances of winning the NL MVP award aren't very high, however, as the other two finalists for the award are none other than Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Schwarber.
