The Jazz selected Williams with the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Williams flashed his upside as a playmaker and finisher during his one-and-done season at Colorado, registering per-40-minute averages of 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He struggled down the stretch of his freshman season while dealing with injuries, so he'll need to work on being more consistent and expanding his shooting range at the NBA level. In Summer League, Williams averaged 10.7 points and 1.0 threes on 45/26/91 shooting, 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.4 steals with 1.4 turnovers in 28.3 minutes. Williams got as much Summer League run as nearly anyone, playing in seven games, but he didn't do a lot with it. Utah's roster isn't particularly good, but it's relatively deep with young players. That means it's not a guarantee that Williams sees significant action right out of the gate despite being a relatively high pick. Read Past Outlooks
$Signed a two-year, $11.21 million contract with the Jazz in July of 2024. Contract includes $6.02 million team option for 2026-27.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Born in San Luis Obispo, California, Williams attended Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona after his family moved there while he was young. He was an extremely accomplished high school player, named Premier Region Player of the Year as a junior and winning the Class 6A state title. As a senior, he led his team to a 30-1 record and a second straight championship. The five-star recruit played in the 2023 McDonald's All-American Boys game and Nike Hoops Summit. Williams also participated in the 2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, playing for the United States team, coached by Colorado head coach Tad Boyle. Williams would go on to attend Colorado for college, where he was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team in 2024. In 24 appearances (18 starts), the forward averaged 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 28.1 minutes. Williams fits the coveted prototype of a lengthy, athletic wing. His explosiveness isn't jaw-dropping, but he can push the ball in transition and turn the corner on slower defenders in the halfcourt. His best offense comes when he can get a head of steam toward the rim and finish over rim protectors. If the defense commits too hard, he's capable of making the right passing read. On the other end of the court, Williams can make life tough for almost any offensive player and would most likely thrive in a switch-heavy scheme. He's lengthy and can move his feet. Like many young players of his skillset, he's thin, which can limit him on both sides of the ball, but NBA teams probably won't ask him to be a playmaker on offense or guard centers on defense. His shot is still somewhat of a question mark. He went 17-for-41 from deep (42%) but shot just 55-for-77 (71%) from the charity stripe. Williams' development track will depend a lot on his jumper and whether or not he can develop some more playmaking. If he can hit threes reliably, he'll fit the mold of numerous lengthy three-and-D wings around the Association. If the shot is unstable but he develops as a playmaker, there could be similarities to someone like Aaron Gordon. If both aspects develop, the ultimate ceiling may look something like Pascal Siakam. But as it stands, the reason teams should be interested in Williams is the high floor his defense and physical tools provide him. He could slot into almost any team construction and be valuable.
ANALYSIS Williams went scoreless in 15 minutes in the loss to the Suns on Tuesday, and the rookie will be replaced in the starting lineup by another first-year player, Kyle Filipowski. Williams is averaging just 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 10 appearances this season (seven starts).

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Candidate for regular role
FUtah Jazz
August 3, 2024
Williams could be in line for a regular role in the Jazz rotation in his rookie year following a strong Summer League display, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS Jones believes that Williams should get immediate playing time in the NBA and go through the natural ups and downs of a rookie, rather than being sent to the G League. Even though Williams struggled badly in the Salt Lake City Summer League, he thrived in Las Vegas and showed glimpses of the player he might become with regular reps in The Association. The rookie could crack the NBA rotation as a rookie, and Utah's rebuilding process could allow him extra minutes on the floor.
