RotoWire.com used follower counts from Instagram and X to create a social media hype power ranking system for college football teams' official accounts, ranking teams based on percentage growth week-over-week on the platforms, following their previous game. At the end of the season, we pulled out the teams with the most impact across a handful of categories.
Social Consistency Leaders

As fans of the 15-0 Indiana Hoosiers eagerly await Monday's CFP finale against the Miami Hurricanes, they can hang their collective hats on the fact that the Big Ten champion was our top team on social media this season.
That's because the team led on the field by Curt Cignetti was featured on our social media growth rankings 13 times this season, earning IU the honor of being college football's social consistency leaders in 2025.
Now that the Hoosiers have that off-the-field honor sewn up, IU fans will turn their collective gaze forward to the showdown with the Hurricanes on Miami's home turf (Hard Rock Stadium), with oddsmakers from DraftKings Sportsbook listing Indiana as an 8.5-point favorite in the championship tilt.

Moving on down, the Power Four football team that was a regular mover and shaker in our social media growth charts was the
Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC.
That's because Diego Pavia and company won 10 games in a season for the first time in school history, finishing the year 10-4 and 6-2 in conference play, while finishing in the top five of our social media growth rankings nine times in total this year.
While the Commodores might have been on the wrong end of a 34-27 defeat against Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl, no one can take away the team's success, both on the field and online, this football season.
Top Rank Movers

| +64 Positions |
The Power Four team that gained the most ground week-over-week online this season was the Arizona State Sun Devils, who jumped 64 spots on our list to take home the award for top ranked movers in 2025.
While football fans in Tempe likely won't remember much from the season that was, with ASU falling from the perch of Big 12 champion and CFP participant to an 8-5 clunker that saw them lose to in-state rival Arizona at home (23-7) and to Duke (42-39) in the Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl, they'll have one honor to bring home from 2025, at least.
"Social media is a massive growth driver within all of college athletics and most definitely college football," ASU Football Director of Creative Content Taylor Hansen said. "It not only helps boost recruitment and fan loyalty but also creates value through authentic storytelling. The main driver in our program is being player-centered. Which is a major key in Arizona State's elite culture. It is important to tie in the brand by showcasing real team emotion, brotherhood moments, traditions, and the amazing things your program offers, beyond just highlights. This builds deeper connections with recruits, fans, and alumni."
Growth Spike Leader
Team | WoW Growth Spike |
| 32.66% |
Finally, the Power Four football team that saw the biggest week-over-week growth spike, percentage wise, in 2025 was the
Texas Longhorns, who gained 32.66% to take home our growth spike leader award.
The Longhorns, who went 10-3 in 2025 after going 13-3 and reaching the CFP semifinals in 2024, did manage to end the season on a high note, beating Michigan (41-27) in the Citrus Bowl.
As for the year that was, UT Director of Creative Media Derek Ochoa told RotoWire.com that the Longhorns' social media growth shows the public's attachment to the school's brand at large, connecting fans far and wide to the program and building ties that go far beyond The Forty Acres.
"Follower growth is one of the most important metrics to me because it reflects the overall momentum of the brand," Ochoa said. "When our social channels consistently gain new followers, it shows that our content is resonating beyond our core audience. While a lot of factors can go into impressions and engagement statistics, sustained follower growth shows people want to return to our channels and are eager to stay connected with our content and football program."
