2026 Fantasy Outlook
Woodruff missed the entire 2024 season following a capsule repair surgery on his right shoulder. He had been expected to make his 2025 season debut early on in the year, but the righty experienced multiple setbacks on his rehab assignment in suffering ankle and elbow injuries, delaying his first outing with the Brewers until early July. Expectations were reined in at that point, but Woodruff exceeded them with a 3.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 83:14 K:BB over 64.2 frames covering 12 starts. Unfortunately, his season ended early with a lat strain, though it's unrelated to the shoulder surgery and he's expected to be healthy heading into 2026. Woodruff's repertoire is unusual in that he doesn't really throw a breaking ball (his curveball and slider combined to make up less than five percent of his usage), and the velocity on both his four-seamer and sinker were well down in his first year back from shoulder surgery. The 33-year-old showed last season that he can still make it work with diminished velocity, but he'll be a high-risk, high-reward fantasy proposition in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Opening Day 'up in the air'
Woodruff (lat) said Monday that his Opening Day availability is "up in the air right now," Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Woodruff is a bit behind schedule in Brewers camp after he ended last season on the injured list with a right lat strain. He threw a live batting practice session Monday and will face hitters at least once more before perhaps being cleared to pitch in a game setting. Woodruff noted Monday that he's "in a good spot," but he did not want to commit to being ready once the regular season begins, saying his goal is to have a healthy season and "be available at the end of the year when it matters most." The righty held a 3.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 83:14 K:BB in 64.2 innings last season for the Brewers.

The right-hander was released by the Brewers in November of 2023 but eventually re-signed on a two-year deal as he sat out 2024 while recovering from shoulder surgery. Woodruff spent most of 2023 on the shelf but was electric when available with a 2.28 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 11 starts. That production wasn't exactly out of the ordinary, as he had a 3.02 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 in 92 starts over the previous four seasons. The question now is whether he can recapture that form after missing a full season, and there's also the possibility he faces some workload limitations given his limited innings over the past two years. There is tons of upside given his track record and Milwaukee's penchant for getting the most out of its pitchers, but there's still some risk with Woodruff coming off the injury.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No extension talks so far
The Brewers have yet to have substantive talks with Woodruff regarding a contract extension or a renegotiated one-year deal, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
Woodruff accepted the Brewers' one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer last month, which stretched their typically-modest payroll. They could lower the pitcher's average annual value with a multi-year deal, but it doesn't appear any progress has been made so far on that front. Woodruff has made only 23 starts since 2023 due to injuries, but he was terrific in 2025 after making it back from shoulder surgery, holding a 3.20 ERA and 83:14 K:BB over 64.2 innings. The righty missed the end of the regular season and playoffs with a lat strain but is expected to be healthy for spring training.
