2026 Fantasy Outlook
"If you can't beat them, join them." That's exactly what Snell did last winter when he signed a five-year, $182 million contract with the Dodgers, the team that bested Snell's Rays in the 2020 World Series. A bout of shoulder inflammation put Snell on the injured list two starts into the 2025 season, costing him four months. The left-hander returned to go 4-4 with a 2.41 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB over 52.1 innings spanning nine starts down the stretch of the regular season before adding three wins with a 3.18 ERA and 41 more strikeouts over 34 postseason innings. His fastball was more hittable last season, though he only gave up three total homers in his 61.1 regular-season innings. A two-time Cy Young winner, Snell has often missed time due to injury throughout his career, twice reaching 30 starts. More of the same should be expected in 2026 -- both the missed time and the high-level performance when available. A third Cy Young is not out of the question but should be considered unlikely given his injury history and with the Dodgers always prioritizing the ultimate goal of winning a championship. Status for Opening Day uncertain
Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged Monday that Snell (shoulder) is uncertain to be part of the Dodgers' Opening Day rotation while the left-hander remains limited to throwing off flat ground, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. "Time's ticking, but like I told him the other day, Opening Day is not necessarily a hard and fast target for us," Roberts said of Snell.
Analysis
Snell hasn't experienced any reported setbacks on the health front since the start of spring training, but the Dodgers are taking a deliberate approach with him during camp after he missed extensive time last season due to shoulder problems. He would still appear to be at least a couple weeks away from making his Cactus League debut, given that he'll need to throw multiple bullpen sessions and face hitters in live batting practice before being cleared to pitch in a game setting. So long as Snell is able to reach those checkpoints by around early-to-mid-March, any potential stint on the IL to begin the season would likely be abbreviated.

Snell didn't secure a contract for 2024 until signing with the Giants in mid-March, and the turbulent offseason carried over into the regular season. He joined San Francisco's rotation in early April but made just six starts and had a 9.51 ERA during the first three months of the campaign as he missed time due to groin and hamstring injuries. The left-hander was dominant once he returned from the injured list in July and closed the season with just 11 earned runs allowed in his final 14 starts, and he had a 114:30 K:BB over 80.1 innings during that stretch. Snell cashed in with a long-term deal with the Dodgers, so he is well positioned to log double-digit wins for the third time in his career. He's topped 130 frames in a season just twice in his eight full MLB campaigns, so fantasy managers shouldn't be counting on more than 20-to-25 starts. However, Snell won the Cy Young Award in those other two seasons, so he could be a league-winning pitcher if he's able to stay healthy.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Deal has conditional club option
Snell's five-year, $182 million contract with the Dodgers features a $10 million club option for 2030 if he goes untraded and spends more than 90 consecutive days on the IL due to a specific injury, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Analysis
Half of the left-hander's $26 million salary is deferred each year, which reduces the present-day value of the deal to about $150.3 million. Snell was unable to secure a contract for 2024 until March when he signed with the Giants, but he's the first big name off the market this winter. The 31-year-old had a 3.12 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 145:44 K:BB over 104 innings with San Francisco last season, and he finished the campaign in dominant fashion with just 11 earned runs allowed in his final 14 starts.
