2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wembanyama was well on his way to being the best fantasy basketball player not named Nikola Jokic before being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder following the All-Star break last season. The French phenom was shut down for the rest of the campaign and still finished as a top-20 player in eight-category leagues despite only 46 regular-season appearances. Before Wembanyama, no player in NBA history averaged at least three blocks and three made three-pointers per game for an entire campaign. He reached those plateaus in 2024-25, averaging 3.8 blocks and 3.1 threes, and that could be a yearly occurrence for the Unicorn of Unicorns. He was also one of eight players to average at least 11 rebounds per game. As for percentages, Wembanyama shot 35.2 percent on 8.8 3PA/G after shooting 32.5 percent on 5.5 tries as a rookie. He also improved his percentage from the charity stripe to 83.6, but attempted one fewer free throw per game. There isn't a player in the league with a higher upside than Wembanyama, but he comes with considerable risk, even if San Antonio's medical staff is confident they have found the crux of his medical issues and don't have any long-term concerns. The Spurs are expected to take a step forward in 2025-26, but it'll take significant internal growth. Mid-season acquisition De'Aaron Fox should be at his best after a full year adapting to his new squad, plus development from Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, who've won the last two Rookie of the Year awards. However, Devin Vassell has struggled to stay healthy, while Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson have taken steps backward over the past two seasons. If they don't evolve as a team, it'll be difficult for Wembanyama to reach his fantasy potential and surpass Jokic as the consensus No. 1 pick. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Victor Wembanyama is spending the 2022-23 season with Metropolitans 92 of the French Jeep Elite league. He will not participate in the NBA combine, as his season will still be in play. As of May 10, he was averaging 21.9 points on 47/29/83 shooting, 10.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.1 blocks in 32.3 minutes. He's posted season highs of 33 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, six blocks, three steals and four three-pointers. The big man has played professionally since 2019, initially starting with Nanterre 92 before moving on to ASVEL two years later, where he won the Pro A title. As a French national team member, he won two silver medals at the youth level and set the FIBA record for blocks per game in a single tournament at the 2021 FIBA Under-19 World Cup. Wembanyama's height combined with his well-rounded skillset makes him one of the highest-ceiling prospects most scouts have ever seen. Despite being well over seven feet tall, he can handle and shoot the ball like a playmaking wing, but he has skills in the post as well, allowing him to simply shoot over smaller defenders. He's a willing passer, able to punish double-teams. Wembanyama's length will make him extremely disruptive as a defender and rebounder. His relative quickness will allow him to defend some on the perimeter, where he's capable of blocking jumpers. Wembanyama is practically a lock to go No. 1 in the 2023 NBA Draft, and it would be shocking if he didn't immediately start. He could be vying for All-Star nods sooner than later, and it's hard to calculate how high his ceiling might be down the line. There's not a strong NBA comparison for him, as his playstyle mixed with his height make him completely unique.

Season-high 41 points in win
CSan Antonio Spurs
March 30, 2026
Wembanyama supplied 41 points (17-27 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 16 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal across 31 minutes in Monday's 129-114 win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Wembanyama exploited a favorable matchup against 6-foot-7 fellow Frenchman Guerschon Yabusele, who got the starting nod at center for the shorthanded Bulls. Wembanyama put up a season-high 27 field-goal attempts en route to a season-high 41 points, and he has now scored at least 20 in five of the last six games. The star big man also grabbed a game-best 16 rebounds, securing his fourth straight double-double with 15-plus boards. Additionally, Wembanyama was productive from beyond the arc following a seven-game stretch in which he shot just 22.5 percent from downtown.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Coming into the league with some of the highest expectations of any rookie, Wembanyama exceeded even many optimists' hopes. The 7-foot-4 phenom led the NBA in blocks per game (3.6) and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. That's before considering the bulk of his statistical output, which only improved as the season went along. In his 43 games after the New Year, the Rookie of the Year averaged 23.1 points on 48/34/80 shooting, 10.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 3.9 blocks and 1.2 steals in 29.7 minutes. Almost hidden in Wembanyama's stats are his relatively low minutes, and if he can start seeing closer to 35 minutes more consistently, that will create a boost in his numbers by default. After the team sandbagged the point guard position for much of last season, that's set to change this time around. Chris Paul signed a one-year deal with the Spurs and should be a massive boost to Wembanyama's effectiveness, acting as a true floor general capable of directing traffic and dropping dimes. The rest of the surrounding core is mostly the same, creating no new questions about someone fighting for touches. Regardless of league type - redraft, keeper, points, 8-category, 9-category, head-to-head-, roto, you name it - Wembanyama can, and probably should, be drafted No. 1 overall.
He's a willing passer, able to punish double teams. Wembanyama's length will make him extremely disruptive as a defender and rebounder. His relative quickness allows him to defend some on the perimeter, where he's capable of blocking jumpers. Wembanyama could be vying for All-Star nods sooner than later, and it's hard to calculate how high his ceiling might be down the line. Last season, with Metropolitans 92 in the French LNB Pro A league, he averaged 20.9 points on 47/27/82 shooting, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.4 assists. To much dissatisfaction, the No. 1 overall pick appeared in just two Summer League games. He looked to be a combination of tired and nervous in his first appearance. And while he still looked raw offensively in his second performance, he finished with an efficient 27 points on 14 shots. It's easier to have confidence in his defense, with Wembanyama racking up eight blocks and one steal in his two games. A more structured offense orchestrated by Gregg Popovich should benefit the rookie. So how high should he be drafted in fantasy? Based on his defensive upside alone, he could be a valid pick in the middle rounds. But if he can become the focal point of San Antonio's offense, or at least play efficiently within the structure, it's hard to knock optimistic fantasy managers reaching into the late second round.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Believes he should be MVP
CSan Antonio Spurs
March 24, 2026
Wembanyama said he believes he should win the MVP Award, Jared Weiss of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
"My first argument would be that defense is 50 percent of the game and that is undervalued, so far, in the MVP race," Wembanyama said. "I believe I'm the most impactful player defensively in the league. Second argument would be that we almost swept Oklahoma City in the season and we dominated them three times with their real team and four times with the, you know, more rotation players. My third argument would be that offensive impact is not just points." With 57 games under his belt, Wembanyama currently holds averages of 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 3.0 blocks and 1.9 three-pointers.
