Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (also check out our Closer Grid)

Los Angeles (NL) - Despite giving up an earned run, Kenley Jansen picked up his third save of the season in Thursdays victory over the Padres. Though Jansen closed out Thursdays game, Javy Guerra remains the closer for the Dodgers; Jansen was used Thursday because Blake Hawksworth blew a six-run lead in the ninth and Guerra had pitched the two days before.

New York (NL) - The closers role seems to be fitting Bobby Parnell just fine. Parnell picked up his second save in as many days Thursday and has tallied four since being bumped into the ninth-inning role two weeks ago. Parnell has a chance to open next season as the Mets closer if he continues throw the ball well over the rest of this season.

Philadelphia - Ryan Madson pitched a perfect ninth inning Thursday to pick up save number 26. Madson has gotten back on track after allowing six runs to the Nationals on August 19, giving up just two hits and no walks over 4.1 scoreless innings.

Toronto - Frank Franciscos second-half surge continued Thursday in the Blue Jays victory over the Orioles. Francisco tossed a clean ninth inning to pick up the save and has now given up just one earned run in 17.1 innings since the All-Star break. Unfortunately Thursdays save was only the second Francisco has picked up in that span, but he appears locked in as the closer right now despite the return of Jon Rauch.

Recommended Pickup

Delmon Young, OF, DET - Young has picked up the RBI pace over the last month, and especially since being traded to Detroit. Young has knocked in 18 runs over his last 27 games, including 13 RBI in 17 games as a Tiger. It's clear he's benefiting from playing in a better lineup, and for a team still in the race, so he could be worth grabbing for the season's final weeks.

Other recent recommendations:Nick Evans, Jesus Montero, Tom Milone, Brad Lincoln, J.D. Martinez
