2026 Fantasy Outlook
Samuel quietly had a solid 2025 campaign amidst the massive disappointment of the Commanders' season. He played 16 games, his most since 2021, putting up a 72-727-5 receiving line (99 targets) and 17-75-1 rushing. While not quite the tackle-breaking menace he once was, Samuel did enough with his short targets to average 14.1 PPR points before a Week 12 bye, i.e., borderline-WR2 territory for fantasy. He then averaged just 7.8 PPR points in his final five games, losing value on the cusp of free agency. Samuel, 30, went unsigned during the main free-agent period, and he now remains unsigned after the 2026 NFL Draft. Rumors of a return to San Francisco seem to be quieting down after the 49ers spent a second-round pick on De'Zhaun Stribling, but there are plenty of other teams that might have interest in Samuel, if only as a gadget player and kick returner. RANKS
Among best remaining free agent WRs
Samuel is among the remaining veteran free agents the Raiders could consider signing to bolster their wide receiver corps, according to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.
ANALYSIS
There are a number of other big-name WR options who remain unsigned as well, including Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, DeAndre Hopkins and Keenan Allen. Ahead of training camp, Tre Tucker, Jalen Nailor, Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton lead an unproven Las Vegas receiving corps, and adding a veteran like Samuel to the mix could make sense for an offense that will eventually be helmed by 2026 first overall pick Fernando Mendoza. In 16 regular-season contests with the Commanders in 2025, Samuel brought in 72 of his 99 targets for 727 yards and five TDs, while also carrying the ball 17 times for 75 yards and a score.

Samuel's final year in San Francisco was a disaster, featuring career lows for receiving yards per game (44.7) and yards per carry (3.2) as he lost eight TDs and 311 yards from scrimmage compared to 2023, despite playing the same number of games (15). Per usual, he fought through injuries in a bunch of those games, with a mid-season bout of pneumonia being the only thing that limited his snap shares (and only for two weeks). While clearly still among the toughest and most physical players at his position, Samuel looked a half-step slower in 2024 and didn't break tackles as frequently as he had from 2021 to 2023. It's possible his physical playing style and history of nagging injuries have led to earlier-than-usual physical decline, but the Commanders apparently don't think so, having fully guaranteed Samuel's $17 million salary for the final year of his contract (after trading a fifth-round pick for him). It's an interesting fit both for real life and fantasy, putting the 29-year-old dual threat with an offensive coordinator (Kliff Kingsbury) who loves WR screens, and a quarterback (Jayden Daniels) whose running ability will discourage defenses from crashing down on Samuel when he's deployed as a rushing threat. Just don't expect many deep or intermediate targets, especially after Samuel had a tough time separating from cornerbacks last year.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Makes sense for Rams?
Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports believes the Rams would be an ideal spot for Samuel to sign.
ANALYSIS
Samuel is one of the top free agents left on the market and is coming off a solid 2025 regular season with the Commanders, as he caught 72 passes on 99 targets for 727 yards and five touchdowns to go with 17 carries for 75 yards and a score across 16 games. He's been linked to multiple teams such as the Chargers, Colts and Chiefs, but DeArdo believes that Samuel's versatility would make him a great fit with the Rams in the offensive scheme of head coach Sean McVay and next to the lethal one-two punch of Davante Adams and Puka Nacua.
