2026 Fantasy Outlook
Despite the team's struggles overall, the Angels maintained high stability in its closer role with Jansen posting 29 saves -- tied for eighth in the league -- to come within two of Lee Smith (478 career saves) for third place on the all-time leaderboard. It's clear Father Time has not caught up with the veteran closer just yet, as his age-37 campaign was a resounding success. Jansen's 2.59 ERA was his best mark since 2021, while his 0.95 WHIP was his best since 2017 and a top-20 mark among qualified relief pitchers. He also posted the third-highest Game Leverage Index at 1.90 while producing the second-highest flyball rate at 59.1 percent. The future Hall of Famer appears to have plenty left in the tank and should easily take over third place on the all-time saves leaderboard. Now set to spend his 17th MLB season in Detroit, the right-hander will likely begin 2026 as the team's closer, moving Will Vest and Kyle Finnegan into setup roles. Read Past Outlooks
Sharp in return
Jansen pitched a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Guardians.
Analysis
Jansen was reinstated Friday after landing on the injured list in late May due to right pelvic inflammation, and he looked good in his first game action since returning. The veteran reliever had blown four saves and seen his ERA climb to 4.80 before getting shut down, but it's possible he wasn't quite right mechanically. Now that he's had time to rest and recover, Jansen should slot back in as Detroit's closer, and he can still be an effective pitcher at this stage of his long career when healthy, as he demonstrated last season with a 2.59 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 59 innings with the Angels.

Jansen led Boston with 27 saves (12th in the league) and a 67.5% team save share that ranked 10th among closers. The veteran's outputs were fairly consistent with recent seasons and he remained healthy for the most part, overcoming minor back and lat ailments before closing out September on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 37-year-old free-agent leads active relievers with 447 career saves and is 32 away from third place on the all-time list. Landing with the Angels should provide him a solid grip on the closer role, but flamethrower Ben Joyce is waiting in the wings and could see occasional save chances.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Drawing plenty of interest
Both the Angels and Tigers have interest in signing Jansen, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis
The Orioles have also expressed interest in bringing in Jansen this offseason, so he'll presumably have a decision to make as spring training nears. Jansen showed that he has plenty left in the tank during the 2025 season with the Angels, collecting 29 saves in 30 opportunities, which is presumably why LA is interested in re-signing the right-hander.
