FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Welcome to my Daily Plays article for Tuesday June 23, 2015. The baseball season is flying by, as we are nearing the All-Star break in July. There are still plenty of days left, however, to win some money playing daily fantasy baseball. Tuesday has a full slate of games on the schedule, so let's get on to the picks!

Pitcher

C.J. Wilson, $8,100 - There are four pitchers that cost over $10K on FanDuel that are worth considering, but none of the four have an exciting matchup. Madison Bumgarner, $10,900, has the best matchup facing the Padres at home, but the Padres have been decent versus left-handed pitching this year, so he's by no means a must start. Wilson does have an appealing matchup, however, and his price tag is much lower than the top four pitchers available. Wilson faces the strikeout-prone Astros at home, where Wilson has been very good, compiling a 3.38 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. He faced the Astros earlier in 2015, and struck out eight batters in six plus innings on the road. Wilson has big time upside, and a good bet to win at an affordable price, making him the top value at pitcher.

Mike Fiers, $7,600 - Fiers is another pitcher with a strong strikeout rate that has an attractive matchup, as he faces the Mets at home. Fiers has 82 strikeouts in 74 innings, which is very impressive, and the Mets have not fared very well versus right-handed pitchers in 2015. The Mets have the 3rd worst batting average against right-handers, and are in the top 10 in striking out. Fiers also has a good shot at earning a win, as the Brewers get to face Jonathan Niese and his 4.21 ERA. The Brewers are much better when facing left-handed pitchers, so they should provide Fiers with plenty of run support. With double-digit strikeout upside, and a good chance at earning a win, Fiers makes an excellent choice at pitcher on Tuesday night.

Catcher

Jonathan Lucroy, $3,100 - There are a few very strong plays at catcher, as Brian McCann and Stephen Vogt (both $3,600) have excellent matchups in home run friendly ballparks. Lucroy has a similarly strong matchup, but is a bit cheaper than those two, and has been very productive recently. Lucroy was injured early on in 2015, but since returning has hit .289 in June, including four multi-hit games in his last six starts. He has had success versus left-handed pitching in his career as well, so he makes a strong play at home in hitter-friendly Miller Park.

First Base

David Ortiz, $3,000 - Ortiz is still very under-priced on FanDuel so we might as well take advantage of it before his salary climbs back up. Ortiz has been hot lately, with home runs in three of his past eight games, and gets to face Ubaldo Jimenez at home in Fenway Park. Ortiz has hit all ten of his home runs versus right-handed pitching this year, and is a much better hitter at home. With multi-home run upside, Oritz is the top value play at first base.

Second Base

Rougned Odor, $2,200 - Odor is an excellent play at the minimum price tag on FanDuel, and has a nice matchup at home in hitter-friendly Globe Life Park as well. Odor struggled early on in 2015, but tore the cover off the ball in AAA after getting sent down to work on his swing, and has looked sharp since returning to the Rangers lineup (.400 batting average in June). Odor is a much better hitter at home, with a .250 batting average at home (compared to .123 on the road), with all of his extra-base hits coming at home as well. He makes an excellent value play at his current price tag.

Third Base

Joey Gallo, $3,100 - I do not know why Gallo is still priced this cheap, as he has been very productive since being promoted to the Rangers, especially at home. Gallo has five home runs in just 63 at-bats, with four of those home runs coming at home in Globe Life Park. He also sports a .769 slugging percentage at home, and has crushed right-handed pitching as well (.588 slugging percentage). Jesse Chavez has pitched well in 2015, but faces a tough test against the left-handed heavy lineup of the Rangers in Arlington.

Shortstop

Jung-Ho Kang, $2,800 - There are very few options at shortstop outside of Troy Tulowitzki, but Kang makes a strong play based on his price tag and his matchup. Kang has been batting clean up for the Pirates recently, and faces a mediocre rookie pitcher named Josh Smith of the Reds. Kang has been very productive at home, as he is batting .342 at PNC Park, with a .424 OBP. There are not too many shortstops that bat clean up, especially at Kang's price tag, making him a top value play at a difficult position.

Outfield

Josh Reddick, $3,100 - There are plenty of pricey options in the outfield worth spending on, such as all of the Diamondbacks and Rockies outfielders, and the red-hot Brett Gardner. Reddick, however, offers similar upside at a discounted price tag, with an equally strong ballpark boost. Reddick feasts on right-handed pitching, as we all know, but has been exceptional at Globe Life Park. Reddick is batting .458 with three home runs and 12 RBI in Texas, and faces the right-handed Chi Chi Gonzalez. Gonzalez has been effective in his brief career, but doesn't have overpowering stuff. Reddick has big time upside on Tuesday, so take advantage of his price tag and matchup.

Carlos Beltran, $2,900 - Beltran has found his swing recently, and the Yankees lineup has put up some big time scores in the past week. They have another strong matchup at home on Tuesday, as Sean O'Sullivan and his 4.71 ERA will be pitching for the Phillies. Beltran has three home runs, two doubles, seven RBI, and four walks in his past five games. He has moved up to 5th in the Yankees lineup, and is still priced under $3K. Fire up Beltran (and Brett Gardner as well) in the outfield, as the Yankees could score double-digit runs on Tuesday.

David Peralta, $2,500 - Peralta is one of the few Diamondbacks left-handed hitters, but he bats clean up, and they are in Coors Field on Tuesday. Not only is his price very affordable, but he arguably has the best matchup of the night, facing Kyle Kendrick in Colorado. Kendrick is just awful, and is one of the best pitchers to pick on in Daily Fantasy Baseball. Peralta is slugging .456 versus right-handed pitching, and is the best value of the Diamondbacks hitters. Make sure to get some exposure to them on Tuesday, with Peralta at the heart of the Diamondback attack.
