FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Trevor Cahill, SDP at CWS ($8,100): With the White Sox sporting a .276 wOBA and 23.8 strikeout percentage against right-handed hitters this season, this is a soft matchup for Cahill to keep rolling. It's been a throwback season for the veteran, but his 57.1 groundball rate and 2.77 FIP suggest there is plenty legitimacy to his current run. Cahill's 11.2 K/9 and 30.1 strikeout percentage are also target-worthy marks.

CATCHER

Victor Martinez, DET at LAA ($3,100): While Ricky Nolasco has actually struggled more against right-handed hitters this season, the veteran has still surrendered a 32.8 hard-hit percentage and .455 slugging percentage to lefties. Martinez has also heated up of late with an .897 OPS through his past 15 games, and the veteran's .343 wOBA against right-handers dating back to last year stands out from a shallow catcher pool.

FIRST BASE

Eric Thames, MIL vs. NYM ($4,200): This is a soft salary to take a chance on Thames. He's posted a monster .341 ISO and .434 wOBA against right-handed arms this season, and he might be under-owned because Robert Gsellman's numbers against lefties are solid (.320 wOBA and 28.2 hard-hit percentage). With that in mind, Miller Park is a favorable hitting environment, and Thames also pads his point totals with his counting stats (33 runs and 25 RBI).

SECOND BASE

Ryan Schimpf, SDP at CWS ($3,400): Facing an inexperienced starter is a plus for Schimpf, and the boom-or-bust slugger owns a rock-solid .312 ISO and .367 wOBA against right-handed hurlers the past two seasons. Through his first five starts, Dylan Covey sports a 7.20 FIP while allowing a .342 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD at COL ($4,000): With the Coors Field boost and a soft matchup, Turner is worth a long look at this manageable salary. Tyler Anderson has allowed a .398 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season, and Turner has righted the ship against southpaws this season with a .412 on-base percentage and a .364 wOBA.

SHORTSTOP

Adam Frazier, PIT at ARI ($2,600): A low-priced flier to create cap relief, Frazier was activated from the disabled list Friday, and he projects to enter the lineup against righty Taijuan Walker on Saturday. Walker has allowed a .342 wOBA against lefties this season, and Frazier sports a respectable .337 mark dating back to last season.

OUTFIELD

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. PHI ($4,900): Dial up Harper with confidence against Nick Pivetta. The rookie has made just two starts and allowed a 46.2 hard-hit percentage to left-handed hitters and sports a 6.60 FIP. Harper's 1.232 OPS and .497 wOBA against right-handed arms this season checks out nicely, and his salary isn't prohibitive enough to price him out of consideration.

J.D. Martinez, DET at LAA ($3,300): As noted, Nolasco has really struggled against right-handed hitters this season with a 39.6 hard-hit percentage and .398 wOBA allowed to them this season. Martinez made his season debut Friday, and his salary appears to have an injury discount. After all, he posted a .925 OPS and .390 wOBA against righties last year.

David Peralta, ARI vs. PIT ($3,000): Trevor Williams will make his third career start at hitter-friendly Chase Field on Saturday, so Peralta's salary stands out as a ripe value. Plus, the outfielder has posted a .378 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season and has been locked into batting second in front of Paul Goldschmidt against righties.
