2025 Fantasy Outlook
Santander could not have written a better script for his 2024 numbers as he heads into free agency. The switch-hitting slugger hit a career high 44 homers while also setting career highs in runs and RBIs despite Lord Walltimore stealing a handful of homers from him. The challenge now is that Santander is likely not returning to Baltimore who absolutely has to prioritize re-signing Corbin Burnes and the club is literally still feeling the financial sting of paying Chris Davis who fell into steep decline in his 30's after his last big contract. Santander should hit for power wherever he goes but may begin spending more time at DH with another club as he is a defensive liability in right field. When you combine the likelihood of Santander playing in a new city and park along with him coming off a career year, one should set their expectations somewhere along his 2023 numbers on the high end for 2025 with 2021 being his floor. The power will play anywhere, but many a fantasy manager has been burned overpaying for someone coming off a career season and heading to a new team. Read Past Outlooks
Rejects qualifying offer
Santander rejected the Orioles' $21.05 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This move was expected, as this is the 30-year-old Santander's one chance to get a big long-term deal. The switch hitter slashed .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs, 91 runs and 102 RBI in 155 regular-season games last season for Baltimore and has 105 homers in 460 games over the past three seasons. If he signs elsewhere, Baltimore will receive a draft pick.

Santander's triple slash improved across the board as he benefited from legislating the shift. The switch-hitter faced a shift 89.4 percent of the time as a lefty in 2022, posting a .219 BABIP. Last season, he was shaded 65.3 percent of the time when batting left-handed, leading to a .292 BABIP. The higher BABIP helped counter a career high strikeout rate, though it wasn't egregiously high. Santander's homers dropped, but his percentage of extra base hits increased four points, so his slugging percentage improved. After stealing just three career bases heading into last season, Santander was 5-for-6 with the new rules, so there's some hope he'll run a tad more. Santander's defense remained a tick above average in right field, assuring he'll continue to play nearly every day, even as the Orioles continue to promote prospects to the majors. There isn't an area where Santander pops with upside, but he's a durable and reliable compiler on a team with a potent lineup.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Seeking five-year deal
Santander is looking for a five-year contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Santander is 30 years old and coming off a 44-homer season, so it's hardly surprising that he's seeking a contract of that length. He might very well get it, although a career .307 on-base percentage and poor defensive metrics will work against him. The Yankees and Blue Jays are among the teams said to be showing interest in Santander.
