2026 Fantasy Outlook
Diggs pleaded not guilty in February to charges stemming from a Dec. 2 dispute in which he was accused of strangling his personal chef. The Patriots then released him in March, with both cap considerations and the ongoing legal situation seeming to play a role. Diggs, 32, remains unsigned after the 2026 NFL Draft, but that doesn't mean there's a lack of interest. His 2025 campaign was a strong one for any pass catcher his age, and even more impressive from someone coming off a mid-year ACL tear the season before (in Houston). The Patriots managed Diggs' snaps in 2025, but only four WRs produced more yards per route run (2.74) and only 13 had a higher target rate (27.0 percent). It was mostly short stuff (8.5 aDOT), which was also a theme at the end of his Buffalo tenure and during his one season (2024) in Houston. The big-play ability may be gone, but Diggs excelled as a possession receiver last year and might be able to provide something similar again. Read Past Outlooks

Open to playing for Commanders
Diggs recently told FOX 5 Washington DC that he anticipates signing with a team soon and has interest in playing for the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Diggs grew up in Gaithersburg, Md., played his college ball at the University of Maryland and still lives in the same area during the NFL offseason. The Commanders, meanwhile, have more than $40 million in cap space and lack experienced starters at wide receiver opposite Terry McLaurin. It's not hard to connect the dots, especially after Diggs told a Washington news program that a homecoming was one of the first things he thought about when the Patriots released him in March. The NFL recently closed its review of Diggs for an alleged December dispute with his private chef, and now that a suspension is off the table, it sounds like the Commanders have serious competition to sign the 32-year-old wideout. He was a highly efficient possession receiver in his lone season with New England, catching 85 of 102 targets (83.3 percent) for 1,013 yards in 17 regular-season games, albeit with just four TDs and a long gain of 34 yards.

Diggs suffered an ACL tear in late October, one month before his 31st birthday, yet still did reasonably well in free agency with a three-year, $63.5 million contract. It's a lot of money for a player who was already in decline before the severe injury, although only 26 percent ($16.6 million) is guaranteed at signing. Diggs averaged 5.9 catches and 8.0 targets per game during his abbreviated 2024 season in Houston, but with his fewest yards per game (62.0) since 2017 and his lowest marks since 2018 for yards per catch (10.6) and aDOT (8.3). He was never a top YAC threat even in his prime, and the combination of already-waning speed and a late-career knee surgery suggest Diggs won't do much damage on deep balls moving forward. The good news is that there should be plenty of short and intermediate targets for the taking if he comes back at something like 90 percent of his pre-injury form, as the Patriots otherwise have one of the league's least-accomplished WR rooms to support aspiring franchise quarterback Drake Maye.

Could sign with hometown team
Diggs told FOX 5 Washington DC in mid-June that he is interested in signing with the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Diggs was released by the Patriots in March. The 32-year-old wide receiver grew up and played college football in the state of Maryland, not far from Washington DC. The Commanders lack experienced receiving options and have over $40 million in cap space, so they would be a logical landing spot for arguably the top wideout left on the free-agent market.
