Best EuroLeague Bets for Thursday, Jan. 8
We had a tough Wednesday with our EuroLeague picks, ringing up an 0-3 reverse sweep, but we did make a few late plays that helped savage an otherwise disastrous day.
This article gives you our best plays several hours before tip-off, but more news can emerge after, and I want to highlight how crucial it is to follow both me -- @kurtancall -- and @RotoWireEuro on X. The latter drops the news, and I will often follow up with additional plays that can be more advantageous because the odds don't change as fast as rosters do.
With all that being said, let's dive into things for Thursday's game -- and don't hesitate to turn on notifications for the X accounts above.
All odds for EuroLeague player props current as of 7:30 AM ET Thursday.
PICKS TO CLICK
Matthew Strazel 10+ Points (+175 bet365)
In the Valencia vs. Monaco matchup we have two teams that rank top-4 not only in transition scoring but also in transition points allowed to opponents. On the surface that might sound like a bad recipe, but to me it points toward a fast-paced game and the type of tempo that suits a smaller guard like Strazel.
Regardless of how well Valencia defends in transition, as long as possessions are quick and plentiful, I like Strazel's chances to reach double figures. He consistently plays 20–to-25 minutes and typically gets up 6-to-10 shots. If he shoots anywhere near his usual efficiency, this number is very attainable.
I wouldn't base this pick solely on past results, but it doesn't hurt that he scored 14 points when these teams matched up in Round 5.
Trey Lyles Over 18.5 Points+Rebounds (-120 bet365)
Lyles has been a 50-50 player for us this season, and backing any Real Madrid player with the way they handle rotations carries some risk. That said, I can't ignore the matchup. Maccabi gives up plenty of points, and Lyles conveniently succeeds in areas they have a tough time defending.
Lyles enters in good form, surpassing this number in each of the last two Rounds with similar advantages in terms of defense vs. position -- which you can see on RotoWire's EuroLeague Opponent Averages page. If Lyles gets at least 23 minutes and doesn't get home I will be genuinely surprised.
Devon Hall Over 12.5 Points+Assists (-105 bet365)
This is definitely a volatile setup, but hear me out. We're pairing Fenerbahce -- one of the most unpredictable teams in terms of usage and minutes -- with Hall, who is one of the streakiest stat-sheet-stuffers in the league. This combination isn't for the faint of heart.
However, head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius is extremely matchup-driven, often zeroing in on individual defenders to exploit. I think he will like what he sees with McKinley Wright IV across from Hall. If Jasikevicius sees what I see, and with Nando de Colo still not ready to go, Hall should have plenty of opportunities to contribute in both the points and assists columns.
