The New Legends stage of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston is almost complete. G2 Esports and FaZe Clan have already punched tickets to Boston, but the other 12 teams still in contention are battling for those final six spots to the Agganis Arena. Let's take a look at where our Legends stand after three days.
G2 Esports (3-0): After taking down both of the North American hopefuls on the first two days, G2 showed up to demolish the new talk of the town in Quantum Bellator Fire. While QB wasn't the most formidable opponents for G2, this was still an extremely convincing win over one of the fastest rising teams in all of Counter-Strike. The French superteam can now relax while the rest of the competition sweats it out on Day 4.
FaZe Clan (3-0): FaZe Clan finally took out the Brazilian juggernauts of SK Gaming! For now, at least. Fans are surely clamoring for another matchup between arguably the two best teams in the world come playoffs. For now, FaZe can relish in its victory while watching the rest of the field duke it out Monday.
Mousesports (2-1): Talk about bouncing back. After losing a fairly close 16-12 contest with SK on Saturday, mouse came back with a vengeance and easily took down Vega Squadron on Sunday to put the Russians on the brink of elimination. It'll now face a Quantum Bellator Fire that's surely looking to prove that it belongs in the conversation as a top team in Counter-Strike.
Gambit Esports (2-1): The reigning Major Champions stormed back after narrowly missing out on a 3-0 record, courtesy of their loss to QB on Day 2. While they certainly were feeling good after the win, they'll now have to contend with an SK squad that's coming off a tough loss to FaZe.
Natus Vincere (2-1): It certainly seems like Na'Vi's opening day loss to Gambit was an outlier. Na'Vi has now picked up convincing wins over both BIG and Team Liquid on consecutive days and look to be in a good spot going into the final day. It's got a hot Fnatic squad standing in their way, however.
Fnatic (2-1): Speaking of Fnatic, this team didn't let an opening loss to FaZe Clan faze (I'm sorry) it one bit. While its win over a hobbling Virtus.pro was nothing to write home about, given that teams fall from grace, its 16-8 over Astralis is a bit more impressive. We'll see how it fare against Na'Vi on Monday, but Fnatic has looked good thus far.
Quantum Bellator Fire (2-1): Ouch. After enjoying much success over the last two weekends, it all came stuttering to a stop against G2 on Sunday. The French superteam had none of what QB was selling and kicked it all around Cache for a 16-4 win. Is this the start of QB's demise?
SK Gaming (2-1): Well, you can't win them all. While this team has been easily handling FaZe for the better part of a year, no matter what team was taking the stage, the Brazilians finally faltered here. Still, it'd be unwise to bet against this team ultimately locking in a spot to Boston.
Cloud9 (1-2): The North Americans did what it was supposed to in this game against Virtus.pro. With the Poles looking like a shell of its former self, it would have been a huge blow to C9 to get knocked out in this match. Cloud9 now lives to fight another day and has to go up against Astralis on Day 4.
Space Soldiers (1-2): While a win over the struggling Cloud9 was a good sign, Space Soldiers have crumbled under more formidable competition. Losses to SK and Gambit now have it on the brink of elimination. The Soldiers have a somewhat favorable matchup against BIG on Monday to try and keep a trip to Boston alive.
Team Liquid (1-2): Well, I guess it would be too much to ask for both North American teams to pick up wins on the same day. While Cloud9 finally got on the board, Liquid continued its freefall with a loss to Na'Vi.
Astralis (1-2): Uh oh. It looked like Astralis was almost back on track after getting a close win against North on Day 2, but that wasn't the case. It was easily handled by Fnatic in a 16-8 loss Sunday that put the Danes on life support.
Vega Squadron (1-2): Good things have to come to an end at some point. While this team looked strong in The New Challenger stage and picked up a win on Day 1 here in The New Legends stage, two straight losses have things in doubt for the Russians. A matchup with a struggling Team Liquid squad is certainly in its favor, but there's no guarantee that the Sharks can pull out two wins and stay afloat.
BIG (1-2): Not a bad turnaround! After being completely shut down by Na'Vi on Day 2 in a 16-1 loss, BIG edged past North to send the Danes home and keep hope at a Boston berth alive. It'll now contend with Space Soldiers in the first elimination match on Monday.
North (0-3): While this team wasn't expected to be incredibly dominant in this tournament, seeing the first of (at least) two Legends go home without a win was certainly a sight for sore eyes.
Virtus.pro (0-3): When Virtus.pro won DreamHack Las Vegas almost a year ago in February 2016, it looked as though the Polish Plow was back on track. Since then, it's all gone wrong for VP. I wonder when Bugs Bunny will play a game of Counter-Strike in Looney Tunes Land to get these guys their skill back?
