Top College Basketball Best Bets for Today
Dang, college hoops is bringing out some of its big guns as appetizers for tonight's Super Bowl. Well done! Today's slate is small, but mighty, and offers some excellent viewing throughout the day. Monday was a rough day and I'm eager to get back to our winning ways, so let's get right to it!

Tulsa Golden Hurricane at South Florida Bulls
This may not be a Top 25 matchup, but this is a huge game in the AAC. Tulsa is 8-2 in the conference and can take a firm hold on first place with a win over 7-3 USF. The AAC is an interesting conference -- one that is No. 1 in offensive rebounding, No. 1 in shot blocking and dead last in home court advantage. When considering Tulsa specifically, two things stand out: they are fifth in the country in three-point shooting and fifth in the country in free-throw percentage. This team can really rip cords, which makes it no surprise they are 8-2 in their last 10 road games and are 12-7 ATS on the year. USF is just 293rd in 3pt FG defense, and I see that being the difference in what should be a very hard-fought, close game.

USC Trojans at Penn State Nittany Lions
There is no question, this is a long road trip for USC. However, the Trojans were home for over a week, recorded two home wins during that stretch, and will have a week off after their PA/OH trip is complete. And, they start the trip with a team that is in dire straights, Penn State. The Nittany Lions are so shockingly bad on defense that when I brought up their team profile, I thought I was looking at a SWAC school (No. 357 in 3pt% defense, No. 358 in 2pt% defense, No. 359 in block rate and No. 322 in avg 2pt distance). Translation: they can't stop anyone at the perimeter or underneath, and USC's ability to hunt matchups is a nightmare for good defenses, much less this one. Unless the Trojans completely sleepwalk through this game, I don't see how it stays close.
College Basketball Best Bet: USC -3.5 (Hard Rock)

Charlotte 49ers at Memphis Tigers
Oh Memphis, never change. After a 27-point statement win over FAU, the Tigers follow it up with a home loss to Tulane, then follow that up with a win at UAB. Once again, I give you the power of the AAC road team, and Charlotte is a plucky one at that. Don't look now, but the 49ers are 7-3 in the AAC and lurking just one game behind Tulsa in the standings. The 49ers have yet to lose a conference road game to a team outside the Top 100 and I love the value they have today against one of the most inconsistent teams in the country. On a personal note, I dedicate this pick to my man Chuck, who had to put his sweet dog (Charlotte) down this week after a battle with cancer.
