As a rookie, he logged 15 regular-season appearances but totaled just four grabs for 80 yards on six targets in that span. As Cowing is under contract through 2027, he figures to get a chance to compete for a depth role in 2026, but with Mike Evans, Christian Kirk and rookie second-rounder De’Zhaun Stribling having joined San Francisco’s wide receiver corps this offseason, his best chance to get on the field will be as a punt returner. Cowing (hamstring) is participating in the 49ers' OTAs, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The wide receiver is not only participating, but he apparently looks good, per Maiocco, who called him a standout during Thursday's session, and David Lombardi of SFStandard.com, who reported that coach Kyle Shanahan said he was impressed that Cowing was in such good shape. San Francisco parted ways with Deebo Samuel this past offseason, and Brandon Aiyuk could miss time out of the gate, so there is potential for Cowing to see an uptick in usage this season.
