2026 Fantasy Outlook
Mitchell's tape through two seasons shows more bad than good, so it perhaps shouldn't come as a surprise that the Jets drafted a pair of pass catchers (TE Omar Sadiq, WR Omar Cooper) in the first round this April. Both rookies, like Mitchell, have profiles boosted by elite physical tools rather than consistent college production. The Colts drafted Mitchell in the second round (52nd overall) on the strength of his 4.34 40, 39.5-inch vertical and 136-inch broad jump at the 2024 Combine (at 6-foot-2, 205, no less). As a rookie, he never progressed beyond the No. 4 WR role, with a high target rate and low catch rate on limited snaps. Mitchell seemed to get open easily enough, but he made a number of sloppy mistakes and lacked the physicality expected of a 205-pound wideout. It was more of the same in 2025, until a November trade to the Jets led to a huge boost in playing time. Mitchell again caught fewer than half of his targets (24 of 58 in eight games for Gang Green), but it was enough volume to warrant interest on fantasy waiver wires. The Jets seem ready to replace Mitchell, but he's only 23 years old and can at least use his speed to clear out space for more polished pass catchers. Read Past Outlooks

Meshing well with new QB
Mitchell has showcased impressive chemistry with new starting quarterback Geno Smith at OTAs, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell was, specifically, Smith's most-targeted pass catcher during Tuesday's practice, in which the Jets ran drills to simulate high-pressure situations such as third-and-long. Rosenblatt also notes that Mitchell and Smith connected frequently during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills in May. New York acquired Mitchell via trade with the Colts last November, and across eight games with the team he secured 25 of 59 targets for 312 yards and two scores, including an 8-102-1 performance against the Falcons in Week 13. With the Jets' offense seemingly in position to take a step forward with Smith under center in 2026, Mitchell will have an opportunity to capitalize on a starting role alongside Garrett Wilson and rookie first-round pick Omar Cooper.

Mitchell seems to be a forgotten man, at least in fantasy circles, despite being drafted 52nd overall last spring after running a 4.34 40-yard dash at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. He spent most of his rookie year as the Colts' No. 4 wide receiver, behind fellow Day 2 picks Michael Pittman, Josh Downs and Alec Pierce. The rookie drew targets on 28.2 percent of his routes, but he caught only 41.8 percent of those chances -- by far the lowest rate among players with 50-plus targets. QB Anthony Richardson was part of the problem, and a 14.7 aDOT further helps to explain Mitchell's terrible catch rate, but there were also a couple drops and a handful of other missed connections on which the wideout appeared at fault. And while it won't come as any surprise if Mitchell improves in his second season, he's still subject to most of the same limiting conditions outside of his control, facing fierce competition for snaps and targets in an offense with Richardson and/or Daniel Jones slinging passes.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Enjoying strong offseason
Colby Colwell of SI.com relays that Mitchell has been the Jets' top performer in OTAs.
ANALYSIS
There is optimism around Mitchell heading into mandatory minicamp and training camp after the 2024 second-rounder's performance in OTAs. The big knock on Mitchell's game has been his struggles with drops during his NFL career, but that wasn't an issue during the offseason program as he constantly muscled past defenders for tough catches while displaying chemistry with quarterback Geno Smith. The Jets added both Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but Colwell believes that Mitchell's performance in OTAs demonstrates a strong fit in the scheme of new offensive coordinator Frank Reich, which positions Mitchell as a breakout candidate for the upcoming season.
