Target Breakdown: Week 11 WR/TE Recap & Week 12 Sleepers

Yesterday, in Backfield Breakdown, I cautioned that I wouldn't have time to be as thorough as usual with my bullet points under the team-by-team breakdowns. Then, I got distracted, and more or less ended up writing the usual amount, thereby putting myself even further behind schedule during the compressed/busy week.

For Target Breakdown, the bullet points really will be minimal, because I'm running out of time and no longer have much of a choice as the start of Week 12 approaches at Noon ET on Thanksgiving. On top of that, I've had some minor issues with a couple stat providers, which means the MNF game won't be included in Target Breakdown.

Apart from the MNF snafu and a few less notes, it's pretty much business as usual, with leaderboards, injury info, waiver picks, bench/drop recommendations and usage-focused recaps for each of the 14 non-Monday games. Let's get to it. (And Happy Thanksgiving!)

- Henry also has no more than four targets in six straight games, so he's a sketchy start unless Smith misses time again.

Gage led the team in targets and finished with 5-49-0, perhaps providing the tiniest spark of hope that he can do something while Calvin Ridley (personal) is out. The real takeaway, though, is that the Falcons as a team can't do much of anything, at least not with Ridley and RB Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) sidelined.
Pitts saw his fewest targets since Week 4 and is now at four straight games with no more than 10.0 PPR points.
- 44.4% of his yardage came in a two-week stretch against the Jets and Dolphins

Marcus Johnson got the start across from A.J. Brown, but Johnson left with a hamstring injury after just 14 snaps and one incomplete target.
- Johnson played 14 of 17 snaps (82%) in the first quarter, then missed the rest of the game.
With Johnson out, Brown played 22 of 22 snaps (100%) in the second quarter, with Fitzpatrick (96%) not too far behind.
- Then, Brown hurt his chest after seven snaps in the third quarter and missed the rest of the game.
  - He also missed a play or two in the first quarter to have a hand injury checked out (he returned in short order).
In the second half, Brown and Rogers both played 95% of snaps, with Westbrook-Ikhine taking 88%.
- NWI finished with 7-107-0 on eight targets, making him the only Titan with more than 48 receiving yards (Brown had 5-48-1 before the early exit).
  - The Titans were running dangerously low on WRs, but they also were trailing by multiple scores and weren't/aren't brimming with pass-catching talent at tight end.
    - Speaking of which... Firkser actually got seven targets! (And finished with 25 yards.)

You can pretty much look at the chart above and tell things went horribly wrong for the Bills on Sunday.
- Give Knox credit for the breakout year, but the Bills don't want him seeing 4-5 more targets than Diggs and Sanders. That's what happens when the defense is forcing Josh Allen to settle for throws he doesn't want.
Diggs got by for fantasy with 4-23-2 on six targets.
Beasley played through the rib injury and returned to his normal No. 3 role after taking just nine snaps the week before.

The Dolphins are lapping the rest of the league in TE snaps, far ahead of even last year's Vikings (with Irv Smith and Kyle Rudolph) or Eagles (Goedert/Ertz).
- That'll likely change, at least to some extent, if/when Will Fuller (finger) and DeVante Parker (hamstring) return from IR, though keeping both healthy at the same time obviously will remain a challenge. For now, it's Waddle, Gaskin and Gesicki getting regular looks, while the fourth guy could be anyone from Smythe to Wilson to Shaheen to Hollins to Preston Williams in any given week.
Waddle now has 50 targets from Tua Tagovailoa, 17 more than second-place Mike Gesicki (33) and good for 25% of Tua's total volume.
- Gesicki, however, has done okay with Tagovailoa under center, hauling in 23 of the 33 passes for 298 yards and a TD. Waddle has been less efficient in terms of yardage (10.1 YPR, 7.3 YPT) but with far more targets and three of Tua's nine TDs (Gaskin and Hollins have two apiece).

Moore was finally unleashed in a near-full-time role, while Cole and Berrios combined for just 17 routes and two targets off the bench.
- The Jets have rotated WRs all year, but in this one they mostly stuck with Davis, Moore and Crowder, each of whom got at least 31 routes and seven targets.
- Moore isn't giving the role back, obviously. He put up 8-141-1 on Sunday, after going for 7-87-2 and 3-44-1 the previous two weeks on just 60% and 56% of snaps.

Carter worked as the No. 2 receiver for a third straight week, and scored a TD for a third straight week.
- However, he ran one fewer route than slot man Humphries, and had just one other catch besides the touchdown.
- Over the past three games, Carter has modest averages of 2.7 catches for 43.0 yards on 5.0 targets, but with three of his eight receptions going for scores.
Bates became the third Washington TE this year to handle a near-every-down role, filling in with Ricky Seals-Jones (hip) joining Logan Thomas (IR/hamstring) on the sideline.
- Bates might have some short-term appeal in deep leagues, but he's miscast in this role. He ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.8s after limited receiving work in college, and was expected to mostly contribute as a blocker. It's only out of necessity that he's running many routes, and Washington won't have many plays where Bates is the first read.
Sims scored a TD but ran just eight routes off the bench behind Carter.

Cam Newton played pretty well and really honed in on his top guys, with Moore, Anderson and McCaffrey accounting for all but six of the targets.
- Anderson finished with 5-30-0 on six targets, and Moore put up 5-50-1 on seven.
Zylstra comfortably out-snapped Terrace Marshall (27%) for a second straight week.
- I liked Marshall as a stash with Anderson struggling, but the second-round rookie has slipped from third to fourth on the depth chart, rather than making a push for the No. 2 spot. And while Newton played well Sunday, his combination of rushing volume and inaccurate passing makes it hard to get too excited about Carolina pass catchers (though Newton might be better than a flaming dumpster fire, which is what Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker seem capable of providing).
Carolina ran only 49 plays in this game, as there were just 12 incompletions between the two teams and Washington easily won the possession battle.

I did say last week that Deebo would get carries to make up for it if he started losing more targets to Kittle and Aiyuk.
- I was thinking maybe seven targets and three carries, not two and eight. This game really hurt Samuel's shot at the receiving crown — and it might make fantasy managers slightly nervous with a season low in targets for the second week in a row — but Samuel again managed a solid stat line on the strength of his 8-79-1 rushing line.
  - He still has double-digit PPR points in every game, and more than 15 in all but two games.
Jimmy Garoppolo finished with only 22 pass attempts and two sacks, while the 49ers ran 42 times for 171 yards and a touchdown, buoyed by Samuel's big day on the ground.

- Per PFF, St. Brown took only three snaps on the perimeter, compared to 37 in the slot. He's been almost strictly a slot guy apart from Weeks 4-5, and the increased playing time Sunday was more about the Lions using 11 personnel a lot than anything else.
(The Air Yards numbers are showing wacky stuff for Detroit this week, and I'm having issues with multiple stat providers and don't really have time to figure it out.)
