EuroLeague Primer: Round 9 - Wednesday

This article is part of our EuroLeague Primer series.

PREGAME UPDATES

  • Othello Hunter will be available for Maccabi on Wednesday.
  • ALBA's Peyton Siva will suit up Wednesday after missing over a month.

THE SLATE

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv at Real Madrid

Key Injuries: Othello Hunter (TEL), Omri Casspi (TEL), Yovel Zoosman (TEL), John DiBartolomeo (TEL), Jeffery Taylor (MAD)

Best Bets for Success: Scottie Wilbekin struggled with his shot over the last few Rounds, but he's a volume shooter in addition to a streaky one, and he figures to get up plenty of jumpers Wednesday after taking just seven shots from the field in Round 8. If he makes more than he misses, chances are he will hit the 20-point mark against Madrid for the third time a row. Wilbekin's teammate, Ante Zizic, has been one of the top producers on the slate, and has averaged over 24 points on DraftKings since Round 2. The Spanish team's rotation could be in a bit of a flux, as head coach Pablo Laso could start looking to the future with Facundo Campazzo likely jumping to the NBA any day now. You should at least be able to count on Trey Thompkins, who bounced back nicely from an off day by scoring in double figures for the sixth time in seven games.

DFS Darlings: Madrid will need players to step up if and when Campazzo departs, and one who is in the process of doing so is Anthony Randolph. He will be in position to take another step forward Wednesday, as Maccabi has routinely allowed big days to big men over the last few Rounds. For the same reason you can also consider Walter Tavares, who returned nearly 5x value at his current price just two Rounds ago.

LDLC ASVEL at ALBA Berlin

Key Injuries: Norris Cole (ASV), William Howard (ASV), Peyton Siva (BER)

Best Bets for Success: Neither team has had much success scoring the ball, but at the same time, neither has been particularly effective at slowing down their opponents. In fact, every player in this game has a favorable matchup on DraftKings in Round 9. ASVEL's Moustapha Fall is the safest option of the bunch, as he has put up 20 points on DraftKings in every Round but the last, in which he recorded 19.75. He is getting a bit pricey on that website, though, so it may be best to look at his teammate, Charles Kahudi, who averaged 12.5 ppg over the last four Rounds and faces an ALBA team that has allowed opposing forwards to score the ball left and right. No one on the German squad has been particularly consistent this season, but Luke Sikma is the most likely to throw up a 30-point fantasy game.

DFS Darlings: ALBA has not provided much resistance against opposing guards and is allowing players at those positions to tally nearly three more assists per game than any other team. That bodes well for Antoine Diot, who is the only player on this team to total more than four dimes over the last two Rounds. The French team has been pretty stingy against players listed at the forward position, so check out Jayson Granger and Maodo Lo, who should both see the court plenty with Siva presumably still sidelined.

Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade at AX Armani Exchange Milan

Key Injuries: Luigi Datome (MIL)

Best Bets for Success: This game has the lowest over/under on Wednesday's slate, but both teams hit a lot of threes and give a lot of them up, so it could turn into a shooting contest. That would bode well for the league's leading scorer in Jordan Loyd, who certainly is not afraid to put it up from behind the arc. You'll need to invest significant resources to roster Loyd on both FanDuel and DraftKings, but believe it or not he is returning some of most value on the slate even at his lofty price tag. Johnny O'Bryant and Corey Walden have also turned into steady producers for the Serbian squad, with both comfortably averaging double figures. It has been the Sergio Rodriguez show in Milan's backcourt for the past few weeks, but that will change Wednesday, as the team will get back three guards in Round 9, including fellow playmakers Malcolm Delaney and Kevin Punter. With Rodriguez's usage likely to decrease Shavon Shields seems to the safest option for the Italian team, as he sits fifth in the league in minutes per game and is getting up over 10 shots per game.

DFS Darlings: No one besides the three Red Star players listed above put up more than 15.3 points on DraftKings over the club's last three games, so it's best to get your value plays from other teams. Milan has slim pickings in this section too, but a couple names to consider on FanDuel are Vladimir Micov and Punter. Micov stepped right back into a key role in his Round 8 debut, and he should not be affected by the additions in the backcourt. It remains to be seen how much Punter will play in his Round 9 debut, but he showed last season he is more than capable of returning 4-5x value at just $5.
