Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Abreu was limited to 115 games due to oblique and calf injuries, the latter costing him a month late in the season, and he also frequently sat against left-handed pitching. His production remained similar to the previous year, with increased contact but diminished authority. Because he's a pull-heavy fly ball hitter, he doesn't fully benefit from the Green Monster, and Fenway's deep right field further suppresses his power. He earned a second straight Gold Glove, and the club reportedly plans to reward his defense with more starts against southpaws, which should improve his counting stats but may drag down his batting average. Even so, if he maintains his improved strikeout rate while regaining exit velocity and using the opposite field more often, he may be able to minimize or even reverse any decline in average. Homers in win
Abreu went 1-for-2 with two walks and a solo home run in Friday's 2-0 win over the Rays.
Analysis
Abreu's third-inning home run was all the Red Sox needed in a pitcher's duel at Fenway Park. It was the second homer in the last four games and sixth of the season for Abreu, who has knocked in runs in five of the last seven contests. He's been a steady producer since Opening Day and is slashing .303/.387/.486 over 163 plate appearances.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Abreu's .825 OPS facing righties compared to a .532 mark versus lefties resulted in Abreu collecting 85 percent of his plate appearances against right-handers. Even with the smattering of action without the platoon edge, Abreu posted a 94th percentile hard hit rate and 86th percentile barrel rate. A 28.2 percent strikeout rate facing righties dampened Abreu's production. He fanned at a slightly lower clip against southpaws, but his quality of contact was weak. Abreu's league-leading 18 defensive runs saved in right field along with nine assists earned him a Gold Glove. His defensive prowess may help earn more playing time, but it's best to plan on reduced playing time. Abreu outpointed his xBA and xSLG, but playing in Fenway Park often skews the expected algorithms. There may be some regression, but Abreu's quality of contact is solid. He just needs to put the ball in play more.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Seen as everyday player
Abreu is seen as an everyday player who'll get at-bats against both righties and lefties, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com.
Analysis
The Red Sox have a crowded outfield with Abreu, Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Roman Anthony and Masataka Yoshida. There are more players than at-bats to go around, but it seems Abreu will be a regular regardless of who's on the mound. Abreu appeared in 115 regular-season games with the Red Sox in 2025, hitting .247 with a .786 OPS across 417 plate appearances.
