Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Sunday's main slate on Yahoo starts early at 3:30 PM EST, so make sure you get a head start on making your lineup. We have six games to choose from, so let's highlight some of the better options to target, as well as a few to avoid, based on their respective matchups.

GUARDS

Buddy Hield, SAC at GS ($32): Hield has been shouldering the offensive load for the Kings with De'Aaron Fox out, which has enabled him to score at least 32.2 Yahoo points in 10 straight games. He scored at least 40 Yahoo points six times during that stretch, which included some tough matchups against the Celtics and Nuggets. With Fox listed as doubtful for this contest, Hield should once again provide a high floor.

Evan Fournier, ORL at NO ($23): The Magic might be getting some reinforcements for this game with Nikola Vucevic (ankle) listed as questionable. However, even if he does play, he'll probably be on a minutes limit since he has missed 11 straight games. Fournier has carried the offense over that absence, averaging 24.1 points and 3.5 three-pointers. With the Pelicans playing at the fifth-fastest pace in the league, he comes in as a very appealing option at this reasonable price.

Guard to Avoid

Lonzo Ball, NO vs. ORL ($19): Ball has moved back to a bench role with the Pelicans, which has limited him to 23 minutes in back-to-back games. He has scored six points or fewer in five of his last six games and is only averaging 10.1 points per game for the season. Ball can provide some value with assists and steals, but this is not a great matchup for him considering the Magic have played at the third-slowest pace.

FORWARDS

Anthony Davis, LAL at ATL ($51): This is a mismatch of epic proportions. Davis has one of the highest floors of any player in DFS with him averaging 53.6 Yahoo points per game. He and LeBron James remain the focal points of the Lakers' offense, which leaves him with plenty of opportunities to stuff the stat sheet. Trying to slow him down will be the likes of Jabari Parker, Alex Len, Damian Jones and Vince Carter. Need I say more?

Jerami Grant, DEN vs. NY ($11): Paul Millsap (quadriceps) was unable to take the floor Saturday, which propelled Grant into the starting five. He didn't exactly have a huge game, but he posted a respectable 23.3 Yahoo points across 32 minutes. Overall, he's now scored at least 20.4 Yahoo points in four straight. Even if Millsap does see action Sunday, he might not play much since this game promises significant blowout potential. At near the minimum price, Grant might be worth a look in tournament play.

Forward to Avoid

Marvin Bagley III, SAC at GS ($26): The Kings are slowly easing Bagley back into things after his lengthy absence, bringing him off the bench in each of the last three games. He didn't log more than 28 minutes in any of those contests, leaving him to score 22.4 Yahoo points or fewer two times. Since he doesn't come at much of a discount, he's awfully risky based on his reduced role.

CENTERS

Joel Embiid, BKN vs. PHO ($46): The Nets were one of the worst teams in the league at defending opposing centers last season. Embiid certainly took advantage of facing them, averaging 30 points, 14.3 rebounds, five assists and one block across four games. With the Nets allowing the fourth-most Yahoo points per game to opposing centers this season, look for them to once again encounter problems slowing down Embiid.

Cody Zeller, CHA at IND ($11): Despite being relegated to the bench, Zeller has scored at least 24.7 Yahoo points in five straight games. He's recorded a double-double in two of his last three contests and could be in line for a few added minutes Sunday with P.J. Washington (finger) out. As good as Myles Turner is at blocking shots, the Pacers have allowed the third-most Yahoo points per game to opposing centers.

Center to Avoid

Derrick Favors, NO vs. ORL ($21): It's been a rough season for Favors, who has battled injuries and recently had his mother pass away. He made his return Friday from a 13-game absence and posted eight points and eight rebounds across 15 minutes. His playing time will likely be limited again Sunday, making him someone to avoid when you also consider how well the Magic have played defensively.
