Best NBA Bets Today (Saturday, Jan. 3)
Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks: Rockets to cover -8.0 spread (-110) -- Bet365
The Rockets are one of the hottest teams in the Western Conference and will face the Mavericks on the heels of a four-game winning streak, while the Mavericks have been slumping lately and have lost four in a row. Dallas has lost by 10 or more points in two of those defeats, and it's hard to see the Mavericks being able to put up a challenge against a red-hot Rockets offense. The Mavericks ranked 21st-worst in defense, allowing an average of 117.9 points per game despite having an excellent rim protector like Anthony Davis down low. The Rockets, on the other hand, have covered the 8-point spread in three of their last four wins, with the only time not doing so being a seven-point win over the Pacers on Dec. 29. The Rockets will rely on their impressive offense to get the job done, as they're averaging 120.5 points per game, the fifth-best mark in The Association.
Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry to score over 28.5 points (-106) -- DraftKings
Curry is dealing with an ankle injury and is uncertain to play Saturday against the Jazz, according to Kenzo Fukuda of ClutchPoints, but if he suits up, he should have a solid chance of making a big impact on offense against one of the worst defenses in the Western Conference. Curry was held out of Friday's 131-94 loss to the Thunder due to a sprained left ankle, though head coach Steve Kerr is hopeful the superstar will return for the second leg of this back-to-back set. Curry has scored at least 26 points in four of his last five appearances, so he clearly sees enough volume on offense to hover around this line. The value of his bet will be tied to whether he's available or not.
Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Clippers: Celtics to win (+107) -- BetRivers
There's a strong argument to rank the Clippers as one of the hottest teams in the Western Conference since they're riding a six-game winning run after their 118-101 victory over the Utah Jazz on January 1. However, the Celtics have been playing well of late and have won four of their last five contests as well, as they're coming off a 120-106 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. The Clippers might have the edge for playing at home, but the Celtics have proven they can get the job done on the road if needed. The Clippers might be playing their best ball of the season, but at some point, their streak has to come to an end, and the Celtics should have enough weapons, mainly on defense, to slow them down. If the Celtics find a way to stop the duo of Kawhi Leonard and James Harden, they should have a strong shot at winning here.
