FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Welcome to my Daily Plays article for Tuesday September 29, 2015. We've reached the final week of the season, so let's finish strong. Here are the picks.

Pitcher

Tyson Ross, $9,100 - Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw face off against one another in San Francisco, and although both are strong options, earning the win will be difficult since neither pitcher likes to give up any runs. Ross offers a cheap alternative, with similar strikeout upside to go along with a fantastic matchup. Ross faces the Brewers, who have basically given up on the season, at home in Petco Park. Ross has been excellent at home in 2015, with 100 strikeouts in just 91 innings pitched. The Brewers are missing most of their regular starters, so Ross should dominate their short-handed lineup. With double-digit strikeout upside, Ross makes an excellent play on Tuesday night.

Matt Moore, $6,100 - Moore has not pitched well in his return from Tommy John Surgery, but has shown flashes of dominance in his last two starts. Moore struggled to find his control in his first few starts in 2015, and was sent down to the minors as a result. Since returning in early September, however, he has pitched much better and has only walked five batters in four starts. IN his last two starts he has struck out 16 batters in 13.2 innings, and only allowed two runs. He has a nice matchup as well, facing the Marlins at home in Tropicana Field. Moore has big time strikeout upside when he has command of his pitches, making him a nice value play at his cheap price tag.

Catcher

Miguel Montero, $2,500 - Montero continues to be a cheap source of power at the catcher position, and has a juicy matchup facing rookie Josh Smith (7.23 ERA) in Great American Ballpark. Montero has hit 12 home runs off of right-handed pitchers, and bats in the heart of the powerful Cubs lineup. The Cubs could have a big night at the plate, so get Montero in your lineup at his near-minimum price tag.

First Base

Albert Pujols, $3,000 - Pujols is too cheap to ignore at his current price tag, and offers multi-home run upside. He has been a much better hitter at home in 2015, where he is batting .268 (compared to .208 on the road). Pujols has hit 29 home runs off of right-handed pitching, and has a higher slugging percentage against right-handers as well. He faces Chris Bassitt, who has struggled recently, allowing seven runs in his last seven innings. Pujols makes a strong choice at first base based on his power and reduced salary.

Second Base

Jason Kipnis, $2,900 - Kipnis has hits in each of his last seven games, and has been very good at home in 2015. Kipnis is batting an impressive .349 at home this year, with a .428 OBP and 35 extra-base hits. He also prefers facing right-handed pitching, as he is batting .331 versus right-handed pitching (compared to .252 versus left-handers). He has a nice matchup as well, as the Indians face Kyle Gibson, who gave up 6 runs to the Indians in his last start. Look for Kipnis to keep his hot streak going, an excellent choice at second base.

Third Base

Evan Longoria, $3,100 - Longoria continues to crush left-handed pitching, and the Rays face another southpaw on Tuesday night. Longoria is batting an impressive .345 versus left-handed pitching in 2015, including eight home runs, and a .581 slugging percentage. He faces Adam Conley, who has pitched well lately, but has struggled on the road in 2015 (4.74 ERA away from home). Longoria is still very affordable, so get him in your lineup on Tuesday night.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, $3,600 - Correa has had a monster rookie season, and has crushed left-handed pitching since coming up to the major leagues. Correa has nine home runs and a .600 slugging percentage against southpaws. He has big time upside based on his combination of power (21 home runs) and speed (12 stolen bases). He faces left-handed Vidal Nuno, who has allowed nine earned runs in his past two appearances. Correa is one of the top overall plays regardless of position, and is still affordable at his current salary.

Outfield

David Peralta, $3,200 - Peralta bats clean up for the Diamondbacks when they face right-handed pitchers, and he faces the mediocre Christian Bergman at home in hitter-friendly Chase Field. Bergman is just not a very good pitcher, and he is coming off an outing where he allowed seven runs in less than four innings. Peralta is batting .327 and slugging .549 at home, and has big time upside batting clean up for the Diamondbacks. Lock in Peralta in the outfield, a great value play at his current price tag.

George Springer, $3,100 - Springer is another young hitter with big time power, and is too cheap to ignore at his current price tag. Springer hit a home run on Monday, and has hit eight of his fifteen home runs off of left-handed pitching. For the year he is slugging .475 versus southpaws. Like Correa above, he has a juicy matchup as the Astros face left-handed Vidal Nuno, who could be in for a long night against the powerful Houston lineup. Springer has multi-home run upside, making him an excellent value play at his depressed salary.

Steven Souza, $2,600 - Souza has been inconsistent since returning from injury recently, but has been hot lately, with hits in four straight games. He has good power, as evidenced by his 16 home runs in 355 at-bats in 2015. He usually bats fifth or sixth in the Rays lineup, so he should have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs against Adam Conley. Souza is a cheap source of power, and his salary is very affordable right now, so get him in your lineup.
