2026 Fantasy Outlook
White had one of the league's heaviest running back workloads in 2023, when he took on 272 carries and 64 receptions on 823 snaps, and as a pass catcher in particular he stood out during his four-year run with the Buccaneers, catching 205 passes over that span. White saw his playing time dwindle from that 2023 high point, however, probably due to White's lack of power and big-play ability as a runner. Though he showed the ability to take on the wear and tear of a starter's workload in 2023, White is neither a big-play threat as a runner nor powerful enough to consistently win in short-yardage situations. The pass-catching production was strong by any standard, and White isn't a complete zero as a runner, but when Bucky Irving arrived in 2024 and Sean Tucker caught some fire in 2025 the workload just kept getting smaller for White, who couldn't match other players as a runner and was at least matched by Irving as a receiver. Now on a one-year, $2 million deal with the Commanders, White might or might not reignite his career. Jacory Croskey-Merritt figures to handle as much of the rushing workload as he can, while on passing downs White's specialty isn't guaranteed to be enough to earn playing time over fellow passing-down backs Jeremy McNichols and Jerome Ford. White is paid the most of the three, though -- Ford and McNichols are both on one-year deals worth $1.3 million. Rookie sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen is also a good candidate to make the roster, though he likely wouldn't factor into passing-down considerations. Read Past Outlooks

Named as offseason standout
Commanders coach Dan Quinn named White as one of the standout performers from OTAs and minicamp, but Quinn also cautioned that he expects multiple RBs to contribute and isn't sure if there will be a designated starter, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Commanders also have Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Kaytron Allen, Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols competing for playing time, with Croskey-Merritt presumably being the other favorite to start. White easily has the most NFL experience of the group as both a rusher and pass catcher, but his efficiency on the ground was often a negative in Tampa Bay -- which is why he settled for a one-year, $2 million contract after piling up 4,106 yards from scrimmage and 25 TDs in four seasons. He's making a good impression with his new team and seems locked in for a Week 1 role, though it remains to be seen if White will get considerable rushing volume or be deployed more like a passing-down specialist.

Although he remains one of the NFL's best passing-down backs, White's gliding, passive style of running between the tackles made him vulnerable last season once Bucky Irving offered a contrasting, compelling alternative. Irving runs with zero hesitation and maximum aggression, whereas White seems to cautiously tread in comparison, as if waiting for a crease that never appears. Indeed, White is clearly more comfortable in space than in traffic, and as long as that's the case, it will be difficult for him to take a lot of touches at Irving's expense. The appeal for fantasy is that White's passing-down skills and strong track record of durability could lead to huge workloads if Irving misses time. Even then, there's some chance Sean Tucker -- who averaged 6.2 YPC on 50 carries last year -- would siphon off a meaningful share of early down work, leaving White with fewer touches than what a healthy Irving normally would handle.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Impressing as pass catcher
Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Thursday that White has stood out at OTAs and minicamp, particularly as a pass catcher, per Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site.
ANALYSIS
White has put himself in position to earn a meaningful role in a Commanders backfield that also has Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Kaytron Allen, Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols vying for roles. Quinn didn't commit to the team having a designated starter at running back, but White seems to have the most well-rounded skill set of the group, as he can contribute both on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield.
